El alcalde respalda a agentes de la Guardia Civil y Policía Nacional en Lorca

Nearly thirty local police officers received decorations on their employer’s day, Saint Patrick’s Day, during which the Irish flag was once again displayed from the cameras of a former university colleague.

The latest efforts are focused on expanding the number of rooms, both in the city center and in the neighborhoods and districts, as well as a shooting gallery.

Fulgencio Gil Jódar, the mayor, stated: «The local police force is growing, but we need more and we are asking the national government to do what the National Police and the Civil Guard are doing.»

On Monday, March 17, 2025, Mayor Fulgencio Gil Jódar celebrated the day with the forces and security forces of the state. This was done during the commemoration of Saint Patrick, the patron saint of the local police force. «We need more Civil Guard and National Police officers to continue making progress in Lorca,» he urged. He emphasized that «the local police force is growing, but we need more, and this is what we are asking from the national government, as the National Police and the Civil Guard are doing.»

In the square, the mayor commemorated the Irish saint in the heart of the city’s historic district.

He recalled that on the feast of Saint Patrick, a church was built on the site of the old Saint George, which will always be the College of Saint Patrick for the people of Lorca. This day is full of symbolism for the people of Lorca. The Irish flag flies from the balconies of the old school chapters, and it is also on this day that «Las Caratas» and «El Tres,» the anthems of the blue and white brotherhoods, are sung for the first time at an official event. This year, they were heard before the «announcements» and the proclamation of Holy Week, marking the beginning of «our week of passion» as spring arrives.

In that gesture of Alporhone, he continued, and the lives of about a hundred Lorca residents were lost. «They gave everything to defend their lands, their nation.»

Almost thirty officers were recognized with a medal or a silver cross for police merit. Inspector Antonio Ruiz Mula, under the pressure of Juan, José García Sánchez, and officer Oscar Ramos López, intervened off-duty to stop a gang involved in the theft of tractors from various districts,» he detailed during his speech.

Sub-Inspector Waper Romero Moreno; Officers Jordi López Ramiro and Pedro Mengual Navarro-Soto; and officials from the National Police Corps, Cecilio Galera Jiménez, and Santiago García Vilches, were commended «for risking their lives to rescue a person and pets trapped in flames.»

Officer Pedro Martínez Mondéjar «for apprehending an armed individual with a large knife who attempted to attack another person.» Officers Luis Miguel Torroglosa González, Juan Francisco Carrillo Martinez, Enrique Yelo Martínez, and Carlos Antonio Sánchez Velázquez from the Control Unit «for their excellent work, dedication, and diligence.»

Sub-Inspector Pedro Marín Gómez; Officers Raúl Pascual Arjona, Fernando Moreno Andreo, Juan José García Ruíz, Juan Rafael Cáceres Serrano, and Francisco José Zarate Risk.

Sergeant Diego Peors Asensio; and Officer Juan Tomás García «for assisting a pedestrian who lost consciousness and had difficulty breathing.» Officers Jesús González Guerrero and Eduardo Martínez Fernández «for their exceptional investigative work in solving a complex incident.»

Officers Francisco Javier Quiñono Ruiz and Juan Antonio Romera Cano «for their skill and efficient management of local police communications and videos.» Officers Fernando Manzares Villar and José Daniel Cleme González «for aiding a person suffering from a serious condition until medical help arrived.»

And to the Olympic shooting range Víctor Mellado, «in appreciation for providing facilities for shooting practice and training for the local police force in Lorca.»

All this serves as an example, as do the rest of the local police, National Police, and Civil Guard personnel.

He noted that the local police force consists of 123 officers, with an additional eight currently in the police academy. «We have revived an academy that not only allows our officers to train there but also enables officers from other municipalities to come to Lorca for training and internships.»

Gil Jódar emphasized that «we live in a city, in a municipality, indeed.»

He announced that «before the end of the year, the local police shooting range will be a reality.»
