According to the data provided by the autonomous community in the region of Mercia, the models predict for February 15, 16, and 17
It is advisable to control the cooling in homes, carpooling, the use of public transportation and bicycles, limited speed, and to avoid intense physical exercise
On February 15, 2024, the environmental adviser of Lorca, María Hernández, reported the potential increase in PM10 particles in Lorca due to the intrusion of African air mass in the southern region for the 15th and 16th of February.
«According to the data provided by the autonomous community in the region of Mercia, the consulted models offer 1-100 ug/m3 for these days, which could lead to an increase in the levels of these particles measured by the air quality network.
Among the most highlighted recommendations, the mayor wanted to alert people with respiratory conditions and those engaging in outdoor activities for which the use of FFP2 masks is recommended as a protective measure.»
It is also advisable to «avoid traveling on main roads during high dust concentration times, or to do so by using public transportation; in addition to controlling the cooling of public buildings and homes, thereby minimizing energy consumption; the common use of private machinery; the use of public transportation or efficient management; as well as refraining from intense outdoor physical exercises, prioritizing short and light efforts.»
Hernández also reminded citizens that they can stay informed about air quality in the Mercia region and in our municipality through the Ministry of Environment, Universities, Research, and Mar Menor’s website: https://Sinqlair.
