The fourteenth edition of the «Women and Men for Equality» awards recognized the work of the local police sub-inspector in Lorca, Manuel García Martínez, and the head of gender violence at Rafael Méndez, Rosana Rodríguez. The institutional law for the commemoration of March 8 took place on Thursday at the Margarita Lozano Auditorium, where a manifesto was read and distinctions were awarded. María de Las Huertas García Pérez, the Women’s Mayor, stated: «Days like this March 8 allow us to reflect, but also to highlight public figures like Rosana, Manuel, and the Narcissus Yepes students. However, this is not a one-day task; we must increase awareness and empathy every day of the year.»
On Thursday, March 10, 2025, the Margarita Lozano Auditorium, located within the fair and congress complex in Ife, hosted the Commemorative Law of International Women’s Day, March 8. This year, led by Women’s Mayor María de Las Huertas García Pérez, the theme «Co-Response» was the main focus of the extended program of activities conceived by the Municipal Council, in collaboration with various public and private institutions, associations, and community groups, to create a commemorative downpour.
«The representation of CO is a shared responsibility. It is a joint obligation, a commitment of two. With this year’s theme ‘Let’s be co-responsible,’ we aim to go far beyond the literal meaning of the word,» stated the Women’s Mayor during her speech. She emphasized that CO-RESPândit is not a new or unknown term, as evidenced by schools like Narcissus Yepes in Marchena, which received an «Equality Award» for promoting inclusive environments free of gender discrimination and stereotypes.
The involvement of all teachers has provided equal opportunities for all students to develop their academic, personal, and professional potential. Daily achievements in various areas aim to ensure that students understand that everyone has the same rights and opportunities regardless of gender. Classroom activities, recess, and sports games promote behaviors of respect and coexistence. Responsibilities are equally distributed, encouraging equality and education with an inclusive language.
The fourth edition of the «Women and Men for Equality» awards recognized the work of the local police in Lorca, Manuel García Martínez. He is in charge of the local protection unit and monitoring and protecting victims of gender violence within the Ministry of Interior’s framework. Manuel exemplifies professionalism, dedication, and commitment to supporting victims of gender violence. He collaborates closely with the women’s department and the Cavi team, becoming an integral part of the coordination efforts.
The «Women and Men for Equality» award was bestowed upon Rosana Rodríguez Soler from the Rafael Méndez General Hospital, responsible for gender violence and coordination with social resources, primary care teams, and mental health services. She has actively collaborated with the women’s department throughout her career, facilitating coordination with the Health Zone III and serving as a reference and consultant on socio-health issues. Her human, professional approach makes working with women, especially victims of gender violence, more effective.
In conclusion, it was emphasized that days like March 8 allow for reflection and recognition of individuals like Rosana, Manuel, students, and teachers at Narcissus Yepes. This is not a one-day task; awareness and empathy must be increased every day of the year to bring about positive changes in attitudes and behaviors.
