On April 21, 2025, Rosa María Medina Mínguez, the Councilor of Education in Lorca, presented the complete program of activities that will take place in the municipality for World Book Day, celebrated every April 23. The program will cater to the general public and will be held at various locations in the municipality.
Medina emphasized the importance of promoting reading, recognizing authors, and bringing literature to the people of Lorca. The week will be filled with literary meetings, recitals, collective readings, workshops, competitions, and the participation of notable figures from the world of literature and education.
The program includes activities such as the literary contest XVI for the «Angel Paște Award,» public readings of «The Wizard of Oz» and «Little Prince,» and the inauguration of the new Public Library «San José.» Additionally, there will be a poetic recital, the «Human Library» project, and the presence of renowned figures in specialized literature.
Various neighborhoods and districts, including Paca, Zarcha de Ramos, Marchena-Aguaderas, Almendros, La Hoya, Tercia, Cazalla, Purias, and Príncipe de Asturias, will host activities like collective readings, workshops, storytelling, reading clubs, and competitions.
The program aims to make Lorca a city of readers and learners, with a focus on promoting reading from an early age and fostering opportunities for reflection, sharing, and growth together.
