The expansion of the craft market in Plaza de Colón is a testament to the growth and consolidation of this event. «With this new layout, we not only offer greater visibility to artisan talent but also enhance the visitor experience by incorporating a specialized gourmet section that improves the quality and diversity of our gastronomic products,» said Mayte Martínez.
She also emphasized that since its inception, this handmade show has been conceived as an exceptional complement to the passionate biblical parades that distinguish Lorca. «After successfully celebrating over thirty editions, this market has established itself as one of the most prominent craft events in our municipality, attracting tourists and artisans from various parts of the country, including Albacete, Cádiz, Cantabria, Gerona, Madrid, Seville, and mainly from the region,»
Furthermore, Martínez highlighted that «for both Lorca residents and visitors, this market offers a complete experience, providing the opportunity to enjoy the Holy Week programming and parades, hospitality, gastronomy, and the commercial offerings of the municipality, including the chance to discover exclusive, traditional, and local products, thus immersing in the local Semana Santa spirit.»
The Crafts advisor also reaffirmed Lorca’s government’s commitment to the handmade sector, offering more space and opportunities for professionals to showcase their products in a privileged environment, such as Plaza de Calderón and Plaza de Colón. «We invite all Lorca residents to enjoy and shop at this craft market, to discover the wide variety of articles available, from pieces crafted by local artisans to the numerous gastronomic products on display, which will undoubtedly leave
On his part, the President of the Chamber of Commerce explained that this year, the exhibition also pays tribute to Juan El Esparto, the master of Lorquina Crafts. «Juan El Esparto was a key figure in Lorca’s crafts and a symbol of traditional Esparto work. Known for his skill and passion for this art, Juan dedicated his life to turning natural fiber into true works of art, becoming a reference for generations of artisans,» he said.
He emphasized that «this tribute will be reflected in the market poster, which brings an emotional tribute to his figure: a person in an esparto object reproducing the characteristic gesture with which Juan used to be in front of the church in San Francisco.
Moreover, Juan Francisco Gómez informed that due to the market’s expansion, this year it went from 29 to 34 stalls, with 100% of the space filled in both locations. At Mass Crafts 2025, you can find items made of leather, glass, jewelry, textiles, cold porcelain, natural cosmetics, as well as food such as preserves, cheese, sweets, honey, canned goods, and empanadas.
Additionally, within the market itself, there will be an information point in collaboration with the travel office, located at Puerta del Teatro Guerra, where visitors can get information about the entire Holy Week program.
As in previous editions, those who make purchases at the market will receive PAP wristbands for the week, a detail that strengthens the bond between crafts and the essence of these traditions rooted in the city. Furthermore, a handmade lot draw will be held among the purchases made, giving visitors the chance to take a piece of Lorca’s tradition home.
The opening ceremony, open to all citizens and visitors, will take place at Saint on Wednesday, April 17th at 6:30 p.m.
The thirty-year craft market promises to be a must-visit for art, tradition, sustainability, exclusivity, and local commerce enthusiasts.
