Cerca de cien restaurantes participarán en la tercera ruta de tapas y freidora en la región de Murcia

The event will take place between February 28 and March 9, with Lorca participating in nine units with the aim of offering culinary proposals of just three sandwiches to convince the professional jury and the public.

This activity is part of the tapas and portions championship in the Mercia region, which will take place in Lorca on March 10 and 11 at the IFE facilities.

February 26, 2025. The third tapas and skewers route in the Murcia region showcases the talent and creativity of regional hospitality. Between February 28 and March 9, nearly a hundred restaurants in twenty-two locations in the region will participate in this miniature aroma festival, offering culinary proposals of just three sandwiches. Their creations, highlighting innovation, technique, originality, and aroma, have been selected to compete in the third tapas and cold cuts championship in the Mercia region. This event will take place for the first time in Lorca, a city of great cultural and natural heritage, on March 10 and 11 at the IFE facilities.

The activity, presented on Wednesday by the hospitality and tourism councilors of the Municipal Council, Mayte Martínez and Santiago Parra, along with the Director General of Tourism in the Murcia region, Juan Francisco Martínez, will allow the public to open their mouths before the competition, bringing citizens together. It represents the 1001 flavors of the Mercia region. These excellent ingredients are transformed into a creative preparation, attentive to detail and with a special emphasis on flavors. The challenge will give chefs the opportunity to showcase the very high level of their cuisine, facing the challenge of convincing both a professional jury, chaired by the Michelin-starred chef María José Meda from Teruel, as well as the public, who can visit their units to taste their proposals.

Nine hotel units from Lorca will specifically participate, including Braulio Cantero’s Closet, La Cepa Tavern, Caamarejo Gastrobar, La Aameda, Casa Roberto, Padilla Merendario, La Perla Restaurant, d’Atjo Pizzeria, and El Parloteeo.

In this regard, Mayte Martínez said, «It is a pride in the region,» emphasizing that «in Lorca, we have a culinary offer that is increasingly recognized and appreciated, due to the creativity and talent of our hotels, reaching exceptional levels and knowing how to combine tradition with innovation, using local products in most dishes.»

She added, «From the Lorca government, we continue to invest in the hospitality sector as one of the fundamental pillars of our local economy and as a dynamic value of the city. This tapas route, along with the championship, will be an excellent showcase to strengthen Lorca as a gastronomy reference city, provide visibility to our hotels, promote tourism, and generate jobs.» Finally, she encouraged all Lorca residents and visitors to participate in this route and discover the flavors that represent us, consolidating Lorca as an unavoidable destination for food lovers.

The ITREM director highlighted the relevance that gastronomy has acquired as a tourist product and regional identity, with professionals becoming the best ambassadors both inside and outside our borders, with a unique and differentiating product such as tradition and avant-garde, Mediterranean culture, quality, and durability.

The III Tapas and Skewers Championship in the Mercia region, organized by the Pintxo Academy and the cover of Spain, is an initiative for the gastronomic promotion of the 1001 flavors of Murcia, the tourist region of Murcia, and the city of Lorca. This route allows you to enjoy local gastronomy in miniature format and discover the most innovative culinary proposals, making chefs’ work and innovation visible and allowing them to enjoy their creativity. It also promotes consumption in participating bars and restaurants, allowing the promotion of Murcia’s hospitality.
