The Ministry of Presidency allocates €2.5 million to this local police aid program
The local police aid program, managed by the General Directorate of Local Administration, is endowed with €21 million, of which €2.5 million is allocated to municipalities for the purchase of these rural patrols. The subsidy amount is €56,000, allowing each municipality to incorporate a vehicle for this service.
The 45 local police vehicles purchased with community funds to enhance security in the districts and rural areas of the region will be ready to serve this year.
This aid program aims to «serve the rural population and promote a greater police presence in dispersed areas and further away from urban centers,» said the Minister of Presidency, Spokesperson, External Action and Emergency, Marcos Ortuño.
Ensuring the safety of individuals living in these areas is not the only task of this measure. In this regard, Ortuño explained that «events like major floods, sometimes resulting from torrential rains, have shown the need for local police forces to have suitable vehicles to access difficult areas due to the terrain or because they have been affected by adverse weather phenomena.»
Municipalities have the opportunity to incorporate improvements, elements, or accessories they deem appropriate, but the General Directorate of Local Administration has communicated the minimum technical specifications in terms of engine, safety, equipment, as well as the functional kit for the roof lights.
The 45 vehicles must also have a specific design so they all share the same image and can be easily identified. The labeling, which reads «Rural Patrol» near the community crest, was presented today by the councilor, Marcos Ortuño, along with the mayor of Yecla, Remedios Lajara, with whom he met at the police section units.
The purchase of these special surveillance vehicles in rural areas is part of a comprehensive security assistance plan in municipalities of the region promoted in recent months by the Ministry of Presidency, Spokesperson, External Actions, and Emergency Situations, which «demonstrates the regional government’s commitment to enhancing the working conditions of local police and improving local police security.»
Entry into the local police force
One of the initiatives launched is the approval of a decree that updates the minimum requirements to be included in the calls for recruitment and promotion in local police forces by municipalities, as well as the terms for the community to assume the call for selection processes.
The administrative procedure began with its publication for citizen participation, with the consultation period remaining until March 28.
Another measure approved by the Ministry was the increase in subsidies for co-financing staff and acquiring technical and material resources for the local police. An initiative that resulted in an increase in equipment, totaling €21 million.
The expenditures will allow for the purchase of regulatory weapons, police vehicles, breathalyzers, alcohol testers, radars, video surveillance and traffic control systems, and transmission and communication systems, among others.
