Celebración del centenario de Juan Rico López, pintor Yeclano

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the Municipal Council of Yecla will pay tribute to the Yeclan painter Juan Rico López for 100 years.

The event will take place at 12:00 noon in the «Pablo Corballan» meeting room of the Municipal House of Culture. This is where the museum named after him on May 16, 2014, is located. The museum houses around fifty works by Ricolópez (as he is known in the art world), representing his various artistic stages and constituting the legacy that the artist has generously given to his hometown.

The ceremony, chaired by the Mayor of Yecla, Remedios Lajara, will involve the artist himself, along with members of his family, municipal council advisors, and guests from various cultural sectors of the city. A documentary about his pictorial work will be presented, and a commemorative plaque is planned to be unveiled at the museum.

Ricolópez is one of the most universal painters from Yecla. His work, «Light, Color, and Yeclencia,» spans various themes such as landscapes, fisherman scenes, fieldwork, motherhood, childhood, women, and drawings from his different artistic stages.

Since the 1960s, when he began exhibiting, his work has been showcased in collective and solo exhibitions in Spain, earning numerous painting awards. Additionally, he exhibited in the United Kingdom, France, the Dominican Republic, and the United States in Miami, where he lived a part of his life and was widely recognized.

In Yecla, a retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him in 2000, and in 2002, he painted the Virgin’s poster. Since 2014, there has been a permanent museum showcasing his work at the Municipal House of Culture in Yecla.

Due to the limited capacity of the auditorium, those wishing to attend must call 968 75 09 42 at the Yecla City Protocol Department, in the morning between 9:00 and 14:00. Admission is free until capacity is reached.
