Exports of fruits and vegetables abroad from the Murcia region in 2024 have exceeded for the first time in history 3.5 billion euros, due to a significant increase of 6.6 percent compared to the previous year.
The President of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, announced these data today during the inauguration of the Fruit Logistics Fair in Berlin, an internationally renowned event as «the main agricultural power». He emphasized that the figures reflect the fact that «we have surpassed all records» and reaffirm that «we have the best farmers, producers, and exporters in the world».
Specifically, it reached 1.475 billion euros.
As the 25th anniversary of the first presence of the Murcia region is celebrated, López Miras said, «today we can say that the region is the most powerful territory in fruit logistics regarding the agricultural industry.» In those 25 years, exports of fruits and vegetables increased by 311 percent, from 1.1 billion in 2000 to 3.5 billion reached in 2024.
The data show that the products in the region mainly supply supermarkets and homes in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, or Italy. As for the most requested products, exports include lettuce, lemon, cabbage, peppers, melons, and watermelon, apricots, or grapes.
During his visit to the Murcia region’s stand, which covers an area of 585 square meters, meeting area, gastronomic area, and a large 18-square meter screen, President López Miras recalled that «the regional government will always be close to farmers, defending their interests and providing certainty to face the future with greater assurance.»
In this sense, the autonomous community emphasized that, in the past year, the community has launched a multi-year financing plan, with 18.6 million euros to assist in the most needed issues for the sector. Additionally, the regional government has introduced a new fruit insurance model that enhances crop coverage and also increased the financial contribution, so that farmers pay less to take out policies.
The Murcia region is represented at the 32nd edition of the Berlin Logistics event, with 64 companies and organizations presenting production and innovation news for 2025. They will also hold commercial meetings in both exhibition areas and in the area activated from the community stand.
«The 64 companies will work to bring all of Murcia’s agriculture, which is modern agriculture, based on technology and efficient water management. We approach fruit logistics with the desire, enthusiasm, and passion that our companies convey,» López Miras concluded.
