The mayor of Yecla, Remedios Lajara, presided over this morning at the Furniture Fair in Yecla, the «most international» meeting in the active listening process for the Elaboration of the industrial plan of the Mercia region, together with the Minister of Environment, Universities, Research and the Region of Mercia, Juan María Vázquez.
The working table gathered approximately thirty experts and representatives from different administrations and trade associations, not only from the furniture sector but also from other sectors such as agro-food. The intervention of the chief economist of the General Directorate of Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission, Román Arjona, as well as the head of the Department of Industrial Leadership of the Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), Javier García, and that of the Autonomous Secretary of the Valencian Company, Javier Carrasco, and Consumption of Valencia, the Secretary of Industry, the Valencian Company, Javier Carrasco, and Consumption of Valencia, Javier Carrasco, and Industry.

The objective of this working table was to «analyze the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the improvement proposals that must be implemented so that the industrial plan of the Mercia region truly meets the needs of the region, especially focusing on internationalization,» said the mayor of Yecla, «a plan that will benefit us all.»

Councilor Juan María Vázquez emphasized the increase in foreign sales of consumer products and agro products, which strengthen the region of Murcia as the fifth province for exports, with 3.45% of the national total and 2,130 million euros accumulated in exports, the result of the activity of 1,817 companies.
The councilor also highlighted «the peculiarity of our export fabric, in which Yecla and its furniture and wood industry play a relevant role.» Regional furniture exports increased by almost three percent in these first two months of the year and exceeded 25 million, after an increase of 2.8%.
«Our commercial manufacturing has managed to bet on innovation, quality, and sustainability to increase foreign sales, and the regional government will continue to support it,» he said. In this sense, the industrial plan includes improvements in international positioning, both in attracting investments and in exports, and «greater integration into global values and openness to various markets, taking advantage of its capabilities and special geostrategic location.»
