On Sunday, June 22, our city will be the stage for the seventh edition of the «Ciudad Yecla» triathlon, an event included in the Regional League of the Triathlon Federation in the region of Murcia. At the same time, the regional championship of the absolute relay will take place, marking the final day of the regional league in the youth categories.
The event is organized by the Arabí Yecla Triathlon Club and the Triathlon Federation in the region of Murcia. The Department of Sports in the city of Yecla, the local police, the Red Cross, and civil protection are collaborating.
The event presentation was attended by the sports councilor, Antonio Martínez, and the president of the Arabí Yecla Triathlon Club, Jesús Muñoz.
The races will take place in the leisure and recreational area of «Los Rosales,» sections in the north, and the roundabout.
The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the races for the youth categories: Young, falls, children, fried, benjamina, and pre-Benjaminas. Each category will have a distance depending on the age. A record number of 185 triathletes and 60 teams are expected to participate in total in these categories; 52 of these younger athletes will be from Yecla, belonging to the Triathlon School at the Arabí Triathlon Club.
Starting at 11:00 a.m., relay races will take place, where each participating team will consist of three triathletes, each completing a route composed of 300 meters of swimming, 8 kilometers of cycling, and 2 kilometers of running. This year will feature absolute male, female, mixed, and inclusive relays (where one of the athletes has a disability). There is participation from 20 local triathlon teams.
Around 1:00 p.m., trophies will be awarded at the «María José Martínez» Pavilion. The award ceremony for the Arabí Yecla Triathlon Club Mascot competition, held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of this club, will take place at that time.
The swimming event will take place in the «Los Rosales» basins. The cycling event in the northern roundabout. Regarding the running event, it was necessary to make a modification to the usual circuit due to construction work on the streets of Camino Real and Carmen, and it will run from the northern roundabout, which will be compatible with the cycling event.
The organization requests the collaboration of citizens in the various traffic diversions that must occur for the event to take place and encourages all Yecla residents to attend the program and enjoy the competition.
