Taller de flamenco ilustrado IV: «La familia de los tonás» con Iván Chasskío

Another year, and it’s already heading towards the fourth edition, the illustrated flamenco workshop IV «The family of the tonás» is taking place in Yecla, coordinated by the music classroom of the University of Mercia, in close collaboration with the Department of Culture of the city of Yecla through Flamenco Peña de Yecla.

The culture councilor highlighted the university’s mission of «transmitting culture, promoting the study of flamenco art», so this illustrated flamenco workshop is carried out under the coordination of Esperanza Clares, the director of the Music Class of the University of Murcia, who works in collaboration. «In a rigorous way, opening up new forms and knowledge in a multidisciplinary way, as it covers various areas of knowledge: musical, literary, linguistic, sociological, etc.»

Additionally, Daniel Jiménez pointed out that this Free flamenco workshop is a way to «Bring the technique of flamenco and its styles to the citizens», to be didactic and pedagogical days that appreciate the practice of flamenco and culture.

Cati Bañón, as a representative of Flamenco Peña, encouraged all flamenco fans, and those who are not, to participate in these days to get to know and enjoy the art of flamenco. She also spoke about Iván Chaaskío, a young flamenco singer from Orihuela, who has been very successful in national and international stages, with a wide discography and winner of several music awards. On Friday, March 14, he will perform in Yecla with his flamenco percussion group, guitar, piano, dancers… with a «very complete show».

Finally, Esperanza Clares-Clares emphasized the university’s activity to generate and transmit knowledge, this activity being a perfect example, because «the transfer of education and knowledge is compiled through an expert for all those interested in flamenco.» The presentation by José Francisco Ortega, the head of the music area at UMU and specialist in Levante songs, will address «Las Tés», a very old flamenco song that vertebrates and gives rise to others, such as «Maritos, DeBla, and Prisión».
