It is advisable to control cooling in homes, the common use of cars, public transportation, and bicycles, limited speed, and avoid doing intense physical exercises, among other measures.
The Lorca measurement station recorded a daily average of 57.12 pg/m3, resulting in Level 1 (preventive) being registered.
In addition, the forecasted models for today, June 11th, predict the presence of African air masses in the Iberian Peninsula, estimating surface dust concentrations in the range of 5-200 μg/m3 for the southeastern peninsula.

June 11, 2025. Lorca is experiencing a new episode with high levels of PM10 particles due to the intrusion of Saharan air masses affecting the Mercia region. «This is an increase in PM10 levels collected in the air quality network, according to data provided by the autonomous community in the Murcia region, due to the prediction of African air masses in the southern Iberian Peninsula, which can lead to dry and wet deposition events,» said the environmental mayor, María Hernández.
María Hernández indicated that «according to the Municipal Action Protocol, Level 1 (Preventive) was recorded for PM10 particles at the Lorca measurement station, with a daily average of 57.12 pg/m3, which implies, according to RD 102/2011, exceeding the daily limit value on 35 occasions per year. 3 consecutive hours to trigger the aforementioned threshold, indicating high daily levels during that period and ensuring the provision of quality air information to the population regarding contaminating PM10 particles.
María Hernández recalled that, in this situation, it is recommended to follow a series of preventive measures to avoid the growth of these particles. Among them, «control the cooling of homes and public buildings, thus minimizing energy consumption; turn off lights and devices not in use; avoid burning agricultural margins and fields; common use of private cars; use of public transport and bicycle or scooter for travel, as well as avoiding intense outdoor exercises.
Additionally, the models consulted predict the presence of air masses of African origin over the Iberian Peninsula for today, June 11th, estimating surface dust concentrations within 5-200 μg/m3 for the southeastern peninsula, which could lead to a condition in the levels of PM10 particles measured by the air quality network. According to the models, dry dust deposition could appear over almost the entire surface of the peninsula today.
