City councilor for tourism, Isabel Pérez, presented a new tourism project called «Yecla, City of Legends» that invites us to discover the city of Yecla from a different perspective and Explore its streets and monuments that are part of the intangible heritage and collective memory.
She was accompanied by Miguel Ángel Puche Lorenzo, professor at the University of Murcia and main researcher of the Histolex Group and the Murling Transfer Group of this University, who worked with the department to go further with this new project that, after being launched in the city of Murcia, is now in our city.
«Yecla, City of Legends» is part of the actions collected in the Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) Yecla es+, funded with European funds for the next generation, within the plan for recovery, transformation, and resilience of the Spanish government.
With this innovative project, the intention is to pay tribute to our ancestors and The value of the «oral heritage that has been passed down through generations for centuries To preserve it and not lose it,» said the tourism councilor. A project that has scientific rigor and is open to all audiences, not only for tourists who come to visit Yecla, but also for all Yeclanos who want to learn more «about our oral traditions, our popular culture, and our heritage.»
Miguel Ángel Puche Lorenzo explained that this route will allow us to discover that our buildings «are related to stories, words, incredible facts, or daily life that are part of a legendary past that we must remember.» Therefore, the Murling Research Group «collected all the oral material and subjected it to a linguistic and historiographical study to apply it to all citizens who want to discover the secrets that each corner of Yecla holds.»
This route can be done individually through Virtual access to content (which can be read or listened to) by reading QR codes It will be located in different parts of the city, although tourist visits will be planned. All documentary materials will be organized on the Yecla Tourism website in the first quarter of 2026.
On Thursday, July 24th at 8:00 p.m. at the municipal auditorium, the official presentation of the project «Yecla, City of Legends» will take place, where, in addition to discovering all the details, participants can enjoy the premiere of a promotional spot and experience firsthand a very special experience: a small tour of one of the route sections designed.
In addition to the tourism route «Yecla, City of Legends,» the project is complemented by three other actions: a Linguistic route, a Trail for sacred places, and a Linguistic Wine Museum that will be associated with the Wine Tourism Center, located in the Local Council of Plaza del Ciudad.
