The president of the region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, met today with the mayor of Torre Pacheco, Pedro Ángel Roca, to address the situation in the municipality after the disturbances that have taken place there in recent days. He demanded that «all necessary troops be mobilized to ensure security in Torre Pacheco, that all effective forces and agencies mobilize so that in Torre Pacheco, the security of the population can be guaranteed.» «What I have seen in the last few hours cannot be repeated,» he said.
«I want to make a call for calm,» said the president, to explain that «the residents of Torre Pacheco want to live in peace and want to live together, as they have done so far and cannot allow or tolerate the calls to violence that we see from one side and the other.»
After the meeting, which took place at the Center for Comprehensive Security of the Municipality, López Miras wanted to «thank and acknowledge the activity of the Civil Guard and the local police in the last two days in Torre Pacheco to protect the population» and insisted that «those responsible for the aggression will answer to justice and the weight of the law will have to fall on them.» «I understand the frustration of everyone, but we have to trust the state security forces and bodies,» he said.
«The people of Torre Pacheco are honest and hardworking men and women who have been living in peace among their people for many years and do not want this to happen,» said López Miras.
