The President of the Murcian Government, Fernando López Miras, announced that he will attend the European Committee of the Regions (CDR) on Wednesday in Venice (Italy) and that he is responsible for the issues of agriculture and water, where he will propose «the need for countries to have national water management plans» and to increase water. López Miras made this announcement in an interview with the program «more than Murcia» on Ona Cero, and when asked about the possibility of meeting with the government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Commissioner of Agriculture of the EU, Christophe Hansen.
In this regard, López Miras lamented that he is «unfortunately» not surprised that «I am not meeting the region’s requirements» and criticized the national government’s president for not responding to this proposal for a meeting.
He also confirmed that he will meet with the EU Commissioner of Agriculture, who is already in contact with him, and they will find a day to meet.
He also confirmed that on Wednesday he will bring this issue to the meeting in Venice of the Committee of the Regions that deals with agriculture and water issues, of which he is vice president. «I will bring to the European Committee of the Regions, precisely, this issue: the need for EU member states to have national water policies,» he added.
He emphasized that Portugal has now announced a water plan that he views «with envy» and that uses water that joins and implements the transfer, tanks, and dams to supply all of Portugal.
The PSRM of «betrayal»
He stressed that he is «very concerned» about the commercials from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to «reduce the Tajo-Segura transfer,» because it is an infrastructure that is «not only important for agriculture in the Murcia region,» but «is important for society in general, for all economic sectors.»
The fact that the Congress of Deputies rejected the proposal to protect the Tajo-Segura transfer by a single vote was labeled as «betrayal.» In his opinion, «it was the most infamous betrayal that can be done against the Murcia region» and he reproached that «that betrayal was led and played by the Socialist Party.»
«And, above all, what is incomprehensible and indefensible is that the three Socialist Party deputies in the Murcia region voted against the Tajo-Segura transfer,» according to López Miras, who criticized that the Secretary General of the Murcian Socialists, Francisco Lucas, «went to the gallery of the Congress.»
Therefore, he criticized that «you cannot be from Murcia and not defend the Tajo-Sagura transfer» and lamented that this infrastructure «is not protected today» because «just a week ago, the Congress of Deputies rejected this initiative, because the Socialist Party voted against it during those votes.»
The common stance on water
He was asked about the statements of Lucas, who met with the first and spokespersons of the socialist municipal groups and unanimously agreed to ask López Miras for «the immediate call for all political forces to establish a common position on water issues that guarantee water forever.»
When asked about this proposal, the Murcian executive president lamented that Lucas’s intervention last Tuesday in the Congress of Deputies «defending the closure of the Tajo-Segura transfer and voting against it being protected» unilaterally broke any water agreement in the Murcia region.
«He broke it unilaterally,» said López Miras, who insisted that the Socialist Party «violated any water agreement by voting against protecting the Tajo-Segura transfer.» «But what unity of action exists when the Socialist Party defended the closure of Tajo-Segura?»
In this regard, López Miras assured that the PP «will not be an accomplice to betrayal and deceit in the Murcia region» and asked, «What are we selling now? Desalination producers?»
In his opinion, Lucas and PSRM «did not understand anything» about what happened in Congress because the President of the Central Government, Pedro Sánchez, who is «the head of the Murcian Socialists,» said that «in 2027, he will cut half of the Tajo-Segura transfer.»
«The PSOE is now resorting to inventing two ghost desalination producers and telling us that they will start replacing the transfer,» according to the head of the Murcian executive, who has made sure that the water from the Tajo-Segura aqueduct «is irreplaceable.»
Regarding the criticisms questioning the legal validity of the initiative to protect the transfer, López Miras defended that «all the legal reports of the Regional Assembly have passed,» so it «had all the legal validity.»
TS trial
When asked about the decision of the Supreme Court (TS), which partially estimates the amazement of the ecological flow of the Tagus and the forces to determine what was provided for 2027, López Miras acknowledged that it is difficult to interpret.
It is, as he added, a «famous» sentence because «it is the result of the water policy of the Sánchez government and the PSOE,» based on «political criteria, not technical or scientific criteria.»
He explained that the legal services of the community in Murcia and the Central Union of Irrigation in the Tajo-Segura Aqueduct «understand that this gives them two years to establish the ecological flows in a staggered manner.»
In any case, he emphasized that the «problem» is that «the ecological flows must be established by technicians, with scientific criteria,» and «this reduction of the transfer has been decided by the politicians of MITECO.»
Portman and regional budgets
Regarding the situation of the project to regenerate the decision of Portman and MITECO Bay to seal the mining waste, López Miras regretted that the Spanish government «causes irreparable damage to the environment» and recalled that former President Mariano Rajoy «approved a project to remove all sterile substances.»
Regarding the situation of the region’s budgets until 2025, the Murcian executive president acknowledged that they are «at the same time» and «waiting for Vox to tell us something.»
He also announced that he will address Sánchez at the next meeting of the Presidents, that «the country cannot continue,» because «nothing works: the light does not work, the trains do not work, today, a large part of the phones and corruption scandals do not work in state institutions.»
