The mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with the manager of Aguas de Lorca, Paco Reyes, and the President of the Commonwealth of Taibilla (MCT), Juan Cascales, participated in the first of these discussions, which took place at Ceip Andrés García Soler.
The Municipal Council, through Aguas de Lorca, and MCT promotes for the third consecutive year, this educational initiative for elementary school students, which will be extended over the next two months to different educational centers in Lorca.
Lorca, February 11, 2025. A new edition arrives in the municipality and there are three consecutive ones, of the campaign «Drinking Water with Tap»; An initiative of awareness and information among the students of Lorca about the benefits of tap water and the importance of this habit.
In the first of these discussions, held at Ceip Andrés García Soler and with which the campaign begins, the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, along with the manager of Lorca Water, Paco Reyes, and the president of the Commonwealth in Taibilla (MCT), Juan Cascales, who transferred to the students the foundations of this initiative and the different dynamics that the technicians will transfer and with whom the children will meet in each of these workshops.
During his speech, Fulgencio Gil explained that «this initiative has the fundamental objective of raising awareness among fifth and sixth grade students about the environmental benefits and the importance that TAP water consumption has for health. The campaign includes teaching sessions in which issues such as water in history, natural and urban water cycles, the quality of drinking water, and the importance of its consumption are addressed, both for complete hydration and for reducing plastic waste. And not only is it healthy and cheaper, but also with its consumption, we contribute to our grain of sand in environmental care and protection.»
Specifically, through the discussions led by the staff of Lorca Water and the Commonwealth, students will learn about the process of capturing, purifying, storing, supplying, and distributing water in the city. In addition to all the checks carried out to ensure the quality of drinking water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In these sessions, they will learn to use photos to measure the amount of disinfectant, to handle archimedean screws, and to perform tests with the laboratory material used at MCT to purify water and analyze the content of mineral salts.
«Tap water in Lorca is safe, of high quality, and the most durable option. With this campaign, we want the youngest to be aware of the importance of this resource and its impact on the environment,» added Paco Reyes, manager of Lorca Water.
This initiative, aimed at elementary school students, will be extended over the next two months in selected educational centers. It is the third year that Aguas de Lorca has developed the educational campaign «Water for Children with Tap», in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Taibilla (MCT), an autonomous body associated with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, which provides water to the local council.
The name of the campaign, «Drinking Water with Tap,» refers to Tap, Lorca Waters; a character inspired by the mythological animal known as Tap, which gave names to houses and symbolizes the importance of water in history and culture.
Aguas de Lorca consolidates with this action its commitment to environmental education and the promotion of responsible habits among the new generations. With initiatives like «Water for Children with Tap,» the mixed company continues to work to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable, responsible, and healthy water consumption.
