Junio de 2025 se convierte en el mes más popular en la región de Mercia debido a registros de 26 grados en promedio

June 2025 was the sixth hottest month of the year in the region of Murcia in the last 65 years and possibly in 1941, surpassing the previous event recorded in 2012 by 1.1 degrees, according to the latest report provided by the territorial delegation of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The average monthly temperature in June of this year in the region was 26 degrees, with an anomaly of +3.6 degrees compared to the reference period average, giving this month an «extremely hot» thermometric nature.

This was contributed by maximum and minimum temperatures, averaging 33.4 and 18.5 degrees, respectively. In both cases, the values were the highest in their respective series, surpassing previous records, with maximums reaching 32.5 degrees in 2022 and minimums of 17.6 degrees in 2012 and 2017.

Both the maximum and minimum temperatures were «well above» normal values during the month, leading to the fact that the average temperature records were exceeded, both for the maximum and the average in most stations in the Murcia region.

The highest average maximum temperatures were observed on days 29 and 30, exceeding 40 degrees in several stations in the region. The highest monthly maximum, 40.7 degrees, was recorded in Los Valientes, Segura Molina.

In turn, the highest minimum temperature, 25.3 degrees, was recorded in Murcia, being the highest minimum for a June month at this observer, which includes data since 1984.

At the San Javier Observatory, the minimum on June 27th — 24.9 degrees also exceeded the event recorded in 2012 at 24.6 degrees. Overall, the lowest temperatures were observed on the 4th, with 9.9 degrees in Royos, Caravaca de Cruz.

More tropical nights

In the Murcia Observer, there were a total of 21 tropical nights, exceeding the previous event recorded in 2012 with 18 nights. Out of 26 nights, it was the first equatorial night (minimum temperature equal to or above 25 degrees) recorded in June at this observer.

In Alcantarilla and San Javier, 20 and 22 tropical nights were recorded, exceeding the previous records in both cases. It should be noted that the normal number of tropical nights for the reference period 1991-2020 is 7.2 for Murcia, 4.5 for Alcantarilla, and 8.4 for San Javier.

Stations with over 25 years of data exceeded the monthly average temperature records, both the average and the highest minimums, such as Alcantarilla (Air Base), Murcia, San Javier, Puerto Lumbreras, or Cieza.

Rainfall

In June 2025, the average rainfall in the Murcia region was 6.6 liters per square meter, giving the period a «normal» precipitation character.

Regarding spatial distribution, where multiple precipitations accumulated in the Altiplano region and part of the northwest, with over 10 liters per square meter.

The highest monthly accumulated rainfall was 28 liters per square meter in Royos. Conversely, where the least amount of precipitation was collected, under one liter per square meter, was in points and to the south of the region, like Alamo or Bulas, where it did not rain.

Notable were the precipitations on the 3rd, mainly affecting the Altiplano region, reaching high intensities, and those on the 17th and 18th, accumulating 28.4 liters per square meter in Royos.

Additionally, there were nine stormy days on the 3rd, 7th, 8th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st, with a total of 2,388 lightning strikes.

Therefore, it was the sixteenth wet period in the 64 years since the start of the 1961-1962 series and the seventh wet period of the 21st century. Although there will be no rain in July, August, and September, the hydrological year will end wet.
