Dozens of Lorquinos gathered in front of the local council to honor victim 778 of the terrorist group and show that the symbol of resistance to terrorism is more alive than ever.
Lorca kept the memory of councilor Ermua alive, who is honored with a street in the Miguel Ángel urbanization, with commemorations every anniversary of his death, some of them with the participation of his sister, Maria del Mar Blanco Garrido.
Fulgencio Gil Jódar, Mayor: «Eh Bildu continues the ideology of exclusion and hatred towards Spain. It represents and includes terrorists in its lists, does not condemn terrorist violence, and continues to defend political goals for which many innocents have been killed and persecuted.»
Thursday, July 10, 2025. Lorquinos gathered once again. They did so in Plaza de España, where at noon, they observed a moment of silence. A silence reminiscent of another that held a country while the terrorist group sang, once again, to all Spaniards. In these days of July, 28 years ago, the terrorist group kidnapped a councilor from Ermua, Miguel Ángel Blanco. «They kidnapped him and 48 hours later they placed him in the trunk of a car, took him to the forest in Guipúzcoa, and ended his life,» said Mayor Fulgencio Gil Jódar.
He said: «With unprecedented cruelty. On his knees, hands tied behind his back. He received two shots in his head. He did not die in a dignified manner.»
He also added that «it is indecent for a president to feel and govern with the accomplices of ETA, those who blackmail the government and all society demanding the release of a young councilor for all their terrorist prisoners.»
The kidnapping and murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco, victim number 778, was in response to the release of Guardia Civil officer José Antonio Ortega Lara, whom the terrorist group kept captive in a hideout for 532 days.
Gil Jódar insisted that «we will never give up on recognizing that the political stability of Spain is in the hands of ETA’s accomplices. Not everything is worth it in politics. We cannot humiliate the victims of the terrorist group, nor should we allow tributes with tributes for the murderers.»
Finally, he recalled that «Lorca has always kept the memory of councilor Ermua alive, who is honored with a street named Miguel Ángel in the city center, with commemorations on each anniversary of his death, some of them with the participation of his sister, Maria del Mar Blanco Garrido.»
