June 18, 2025. Lorca is at level 3 alert due to the intrusion of Saharan air masses affecting the Murcia region. The air quality in our municipality is at extremely unfavorable levels. This was announced on Wednesday by the environmental mayor in Lorca, María Hernández.
«We are following the municipal action framework protocol before environmental pollution episodes of NO2 and PM10. The daily average of PM10 yesterday at the Lorca station was 51.92 µg/m3, exceeding the 50 µg/m3 value for 5 consecutive days, which implies the registration of level 3 alert established in the PM10 African protocol table on IBERSULA,» said María Hernández. She noted the prediction of the intrusion of air of African origin over the southeastern peninsula, which estimated concentration values of dust between 5-200 μg/m3 in the southeastern peninsula.
For this Wednesday, June 18, the intense episode of African Origin Air will continue, affecting the Southeastern Peninsula since June 7, with dust concentrations in the range of 5-200 μg/m3. Additionally, dry and wet dust deposition may occur in the southern peninsula.
For this reason, the environmental mayor announced that «from the Lorca Municipal Council, we will implement a series of measures to alleviate this situation: public transportation (urban bus) will be free, and the more than 300 regulated parking spaces in the La Alberca and Los Ángeles area, near Mercadona, will also be free of charge.»
Furthermore, continuous monitoring of the evolution of the registered levels will be carried out, advising the population to stay informed about updated data through the Air Quality website of the Ministry of Environment in the Region of Murcia.

– Control the cooling of public buildings and houses, minimizing energy consumption
– Use public transport instead of private cars for travel
– Drive efficiently outside the city, avoiding sudden stops and starts, and limiting speed
– Lower the heating or air conditioning temperature in public buildings and houses to minimize energy consumption
– Turn off unnecessary lights and unused devices
– Avoid burning in the city center and agricultural margins
