Lorca, May 6, 2025. The Lorca Municipal Council takes another step in its sustainable urban mobility project in the municipality, creating a new bike lane on Armadas Adenida de Las, which will connect the University of Lorca campus with the rest of the city.
This was announced by the Mayor of Urban and the Environment, Maria Hernandez, who emphasized that «these works and actions are justified by the need to create new bike lanes that make a city more bike-friendly, with the aim of promoting modal shift to more sustainable modes, respecting the environment, respecting the environment, respecting 2032».
«This project,» added Hernandez, «continues the existing network of this type of infrastructure in the municipality and serves as an important axis such as the Armadas of the Forces of Adenida de Las, where there is a large population and where the university campus is located in Lorca, in addition to the increased area.»
It is worth mentioning that «the creation of bike lanes is part of the project to implement low-emission areas, which includes, as we know, works for traffic in the streets of the Historic Center and other parts of the city, the deterrent parking in the Journalist Ángela Ruiz Journalist Journalist and others, such as the installation of rooms and the conversion of roads to cycle lanes, and that from the government will adapt to the idiosyncrasy and reality of our municipality».
This new bike lane, which will be two ways, has a length of approximately 500 linear meters and a minimum width of 2.40 meters, to which we must add 40 centimeters of safety tape in relation to the traffic lane and another 870 centimeters of refuge compared to the parking line. «Measures that meet all the recommendations established by the Ministry of Transportation, Mobility, and Urban Agenda to design cycling infrastructure.»
Specifically, it will be located in the right lane in the entry direction to the city, along the AVA de las fuerzas, leaving after the works a tape in each direction for vehicle traffic.
The execution will be done by a superficial treatment of bituminous sidewalk on the existing asphalt, leaving a non-slip surface for bike transit and will include separators and pillars to delimit the bike lane, both with vertical horizontal signals.
The planned construction period is one month and will not significantly affect traffic in the area. The budget for the execution of this new cycling infrastructure amounts to a value of 36,695.72 euros and is in agreement with the subsidies of local entities financed with next-generation funds within the municipal program for the implementation of small emissions and digital and sustainable transformation of urban transport, 2022.
