February 10, 2025. The Lorca Municipal Council initiated the bidding process for the complete remodeling of the Yesares football field in Zarcilla de Ramos. A project in which over half a million euros will be invested, and this will mean the transformation of this sports space, offering it with artificial grass, new lighting, and positions, making it the first installation of its kind at long distances in the municipality.
The sports mayor, Juan Miguel Bayonas López, who announced the start of this procedure on Monday, along with the contracting mayor, Ángel Meca Ruzafa, emphasized that with this step, the Lorca government led by Mayor Fulgencio Gil, once again, reaffirms its commitment to the residents of Zarcilla de Ramos and all the high districts, meeting a demand in the area. «This is a historic and long project for the neighbors, which will turn this space into the first sports facility in the high districts with artificial grass. This improvement will not only benefit hundreds of children and young people who train and currently compete on this dirt field, but will also be a boost for basic sports and social life in Zarcilla de Ramos and the high districts,» he said.
«From day one, Mayor Fulgencio Gil transferred his commitment to the residents of the high districts, the renovation of Yesares was an urgent necessity, and today we show that his word is being fulfilled. With this performance, we are not only improving a sports facility, but we are responding to a historic demand from the inhabitants of Zarcilla de Ramos, who have requested infrastructure according to their needs. This field is not just a space where football is played, but a meeting point for neighbors, a place where values such as effort, teamwork, and overcoming are instilled.
Bayonas López also appreciated the latest maintenance actions in the country, allowing for modern facilities. «Currently, the Yesares football field is dirt, which requires continuous maintenance of the soil, so that minors can train and play under minimally appropriate conditions.
These works included cleaning the soil and its surroundings, repairing and expanding the irrigation system, straightening and marking two football fields, installing hooks on goals, and equipping a snake sprop.
Finally, he recalled that this project is part of a plan to improve sports facilities throughout the municipality, emphasizing that «the Lorca government is not only making progress with plastering, but we are also completing the field works in the football field. City of Lorca, undoubtedly, some actions that will benefit our youth and all Lorquinos.»
