Lorca, February 12, 2025. «We are very concerned, no information is provided. We have written several letters to the Ministry of Justice, requesting a face-to-face meeting, and there has been no detailed response. We have on the table a new amendment to Law 38/1988, since December 28, the demarcation and the judicial plant, and in Lorca, we want to separate the jurisdictions, which cannot be done until the works of the future courthouse are completed.»
This was stated by the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, in an appearance made on Wednesday morning, in which the mayor recalled that «this law establishes the court of courts and is periodically modified.»
Regarding the separation of jurisdictions, the mayor declared that «we affirm that we will separate in the courts of first instance and instructions. In addition, it is believed that a social court, another administrative controversy, and a section of the Provincial Court cannot be done until the completion of this infrastructure, which should certainly function for years. The current courts are scattered throughout the city, and their premises are small and outdated, except for the new «provisional headquarters» of the first court of the court and instructions number 8, near Viña.»
Remember that these delays negatively affect thousands of people. «The Judicial District in Lorca has jurisdiction over the municipalities of Águilas, Puerto Lumbreras, Totana, and the city itself, so the construction of competent courts for more than 150,000 people is an increasingly urgent need,» said Gil JÓDAR. A statement to which the Association of Illustrious Lawyers in Lorca, Elisa Campoy, added that «the one benefiting from this infrastructure is ultimately the citizen. It is not possible that in a region like ours, with around 200,000 inhabitants, there is no social court. We do not want to be second-rate citizens. The Ministry of Justice must be responsive to our requests.»
«There have been numerous occasions where we have approached the national government to know the progress of the construction of these facilities and to make an institutional visit. Early last year, I approached the Minister of Presidency, Justice, and Relations with the Courts, Félix Bolaños, requesting information on the progress of the works, without receiving details on their development, the final term for their completion, possible delays or sustainability measures, quality or environmental setting that have been adopted. In addition to demanding the necessary effective coordination between both public administrations, especially to avoid possible conflicts between the courthouse and the actions carried out by the local council, such as the rehabilitation of historic buildings, improving urban mobility, or implementing small emissions. This was followed by other letters, reiterating the need for information and coordination between both administrations. Response: Very good words, but without a meeting in a leading meeting «to improve synergies to complete this great project,» acknowledged Bolaños himself. It is true that today, things remain the same.
The mayor emphasized that «the strategic location of the new courthouse in the old city is a coordination with the government of Spain because it was the area immersed in municipal actions. Some of them, right in front of which the new justice infrastructure is being built. We need coordination and knowledge of the future of the works, especially before the constant updates of a law that ultimately affects everyone.»
The new Courthouse will rise in an area of over 10,000 square meters and will have the capacity for 14 judicial seats. After the works were carried out on the plot between Galdo, Pensions, Uceta, and Selgas Palmera streets, and with an investment of 17 million euros, the new Courthouse will house the current ten courts, eight of the first instance and instructions, and two criminal, with the possibility of adding four more. In addition, the building will have space for the Office of the Prosecutor, a Deane Archive for these judicial units.
