El ciclo literario «ciudades literarias» con conferencias, cine y encuentro con Eugenio Fuentes

The cycle «literary cities» in tribute to the Yeclano writer José-Lis Castillo Puche, organized by the Department of Culture and the Castillo-Puche Foundation, returns for its tenth edition and does so with Three lectures, a film screening, and a literary night that will take place in the «Pablo Corbalán» meeting room of the Municipal Culture Chamber and, respectively, at the Municipal Auditorium, starting on Monday, February 3 and ending on Tuesday, February 11.

The Councilor for Culture, Daniel Jiménez, along with Liborio Ruiz Molina, director of the Municipal Culture Chamber of Yecla and one of the coordinators of this literary cycle, presented the scheduled events for this week in our city this morning, «aiming to leave a cultural and literary imprint.» Liborio Ruiz commented that the name of the cycle owes to the fact that Yecla is «a literary city, as important writers like Pío Baroja, Azorín, or Castillo-Puche reflected in their novels.»

The cycle of the «literary city» begins on Monday, February 3 with The lecture «Segura Molina: Mysterious and Magic» by the writer and columnist for the newspaper La Opinión, Francisco López Mengual, in the «Pablo Corbalán» meeting room of the Municipal Culture Chamber starting at 8:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, February 5 at 8:00 p.m. In the same auditorium, the lecture will be «The reporter José Luis Castillo-Puche, against wind and tide, walks through the Belgian Congo» by the professor at the University of Murcia and also the coordinator of the cycle, José Belmonte Serrano, who will talk about the work as a reporter of our illustrious writer during the Congo Independence.

Ending literature with cinema, Thursday, February 6, at 7:30 p.m. «The Spell of Shanghai» by Fernando Trueba (2002), based on the eponymous novel by Juan Marsé. It will be introduced by the film critic Joaquín Val.

The last of the lectures at the Municipal Culture Chamber will be «Literary Hispanic American cities: Comala, by Juan Rulfo and Macondo, by Gabriel García Márquez» by Jesús Montoya Juárez, professor at the University of Murcia, on Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m.

This cycle of «literary cities» will close with a Literary Night on Tuesday, February 11 at 8:00 p.m. This night will consist of two parts; First, Issue 11 of the literary magazine Heula by Óscar Barrero Pérez, literature professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Second, Meeting with the writer Eugenio Fuentes presented and moderated by Professor José Belmonte Serrano.

Eugenio Fuentes is «the writer with the greatest projection in noir fiction or police novels, and the detective he creates, Ricardo Cupido, appears in many of his novels,» said Liborio Ruiz. In addition to being a regular contributor to newspapers and El País, he is the author of novels such as «The Interior of the Forest,» the police novel «The Small Depths of the Heart.» He has won several national journalism awards, such as «Julio Camba,» «Manuel Azaña,» «Carmen de Burgos,» and «Mercedes Calle.»

The «literary cities» of the X cycle are organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Yecla, the Castillo-Puche Foundation, the Municipal Culture Chamber, and the Cajamurcia Foundation, in collaboration with reading clubs and the Municipal Public Library.
