Lorca, May 26, 2025. The mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, said that «the qualifiers are exhausted to define the level of cruelty that the current government of Spain demonstrates with Lorca regarding the defense infrastructures of the avenue. Four large dams in the central sections and the completion of the Segura River.
The mayor pointed out that Lorca’s residents do not deserve this treatment so unjust and unequal. We are talking about decisions that leave us clear, that do not take into account the reality of our region and before which we will not resign ourselves. We want to be treated like the rest, neither better nor worse, but what we cannot accept is that projects suddenly seem to be building dams up to 37 meters high in other Ramblas of the Segura, while work in the Guadalentín region is rejected and postponed. We argue that, because many works are carried out both in the secure demarcation and throughout Spain, but we do not accept being relegated to the last position.
Fulgencio Gil said that «what the performance of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the central government itself shows is that the construction of the infrastructure that protects us from floods must go further. They need prisoners, rolling and sewerage of the Ramblas, and there we have the newspaper to verify the innumerable episodes and the echo of the episodes that Dana brings.
The mayor insisted on appealing to the sensitivity and understanding of the central government in this field: «We will not hesitate to claim what is ours, because it is a municipal project that transcends political signs. It is a statement that unites us. History demands that these infrastructures be built in Lorca and the region.
