The registered unemployment in the public labor services offices decreased by 2,096 people in April in Murcia compared to the previous month (-2.6 percent) to 78,158 unemployed, according to data published by the Ministry of Laborization and Social Economy. With the decrease since April, there have been two consecutive months of unemployment reduction in the region.
This total number of unemployed is the smallest figure in a month in April 2008. Since the beginning of the comparable historical series in 1996, unemployment has decreased in April more often in Murcia (26 times), while it has grown three times.
In the last year, unemployment has accumulated a decrease of 3,569 unemployed, which is 4.4 percent less.
Across sectors, unemployment has decreased in all sectors, with the highest reductions in services, with 1,264 fewer (-2.35 percent); Previously unemployed, with 382 fewer (-4.32); Agriculture, 196 fewer (-4.84); Construction, with 157 fewer (-2.67); Industry, with 97 fewer (-1.28 percent)
At the end of the month, the most unemployed sectors are services (52,606), previously unemployed (8,465), while the sectors with the fewest unemployed are agriculture (3,855), construction (5,727), industry (7,505).
Regarding genders, out of the 78,158 unemployed registered in April, 48,748 were women, with 1,064 fewer (-2.1 percent) and 29,410 men, representing a decrease of 1,032 in the number of unemployed compared to the previous month (-3.4 percent).
In April, unemployment among young people under 25 years old decreased by 949 unemployed at the end of last month (-11.1 percent), while unemployment in those 25 years and older decreased to 1,147 unemployed (-1.6 percent).
Unemployment has decreased in all communities in terms of the past month. The communities where unemployment fell were Andalucía (-24,119), Catalunia (-6,048), and the Valencian Community (-5,271) compared to Rioja (-310), on the opposite side.
Recruitment
In April, 43,415 contracts were registered in Murcia, with a 23.1 percent decrease compared to the same month of the previous year. Of these, 25,089 were indefinite contracts, a decrease of 18.8 percent from April of the previous year, and 18,326 were temporary contracts (28.3 percent less).
Of the contracts registered in April, 42.21 percent were temporary (compared to 40.24 percent the previous month) and 57.79 percent were indefinite (compared to 59.76 the previous month).
National data
Overall, registered unemployment in the public labor services offices decreased by 67,420 people in April compared to the previous month (-2.6 percent), mainly due to the services sector, which accounted for almost three-quarters of the unemployment decrease.
After the fall in April, the total number of unemployed stood at 2,512,718 people, the smallest figure for any month since July 2008, emphasized the ministry.
The decrease in unemployment recorded last month exceeds the fall in April 2024 (-60,503 unemployed), but not the figures recorded in 2023 (-73,890 unemployed) and 2022 (-86,260).
In any case, unlike what happened in 2024, when Easter took place in March, April of this year benefited from the usual labor effects at that time of year.
Nevertheless, in unadjusted terms, registered unemployment decreased in April. It did so by 11,327 people compared to the previous month.
In the last year, unemployment has accumulated a decrease of 153,782 people, which is almost 5.8 percent, with a decrease in female unemployment of 87,351 women (-5.4 percent) and a decrease in male unemployment of 66,431 men (-6.2 percent).
By sectors, registered unemployment fell, especially in services, with 49,660 fewer (-2.6 percent), followed by construction (-3,817 unemployed, -2 percent); Agriculture, which decreased by 3,323 unemployed (-3.9), and industry, where it decreased by 2,920 people (-1.5).
Unemployment also decreased in the previous employment group, with fewer unemployed (-3.2 percent).
Unemployment retreated in April for both genders, although the decrease was greater in women. Specifically, female unemployment decreased by 38,291 women compared to March (-2.4 percent), while male unemployment decreased by 29,129 unemployed (-2.8 percent).
Therefore, at the end of the fourth month, the total number of unemployed women was 1,515,487 unemployed, while the total number of male unemployed totaled 997,231 unemployed, decreasing for the first time in March 2008.
By ages, unemployment among people 25 years and older was 47,325 unemployed in April (-2 percent), while young people under 25 years decreased by 20,095 people (-10.2 percent), their largest decrease in a month since April 24 years.
Thus, the total number of unemployed under 25 years old reached historic lows for a month in April, with 177,429 unemployed.
