CalneGre Cove renueva la bandera de Ecoplayas en 2025 por su calidad y medio ambiente turístico

This distinction, awarded nationally, has been made possible due to the improvement and accessibility of the beaches, as well as the preservation of the existing vegetation in the sandy area.

The Lorquina coast has achieved excellence in its maintenance due to the actions taken by the Lorca government to increase the projection, dissemination, and protection of the city’s beaches.

María Hernández, environmental mayor: «We trust that this award will encourage tourists to visit the coast of Virgin Lorquina and enjoy a unique space, allowing quality tourism to thrive in the southern part of the municipality.»

On May 13, 2025, Calnegre Cala renewed the Ecoplayas flag due to the resolved commitment of the Lorca government to improve its quality, tourism, and sustainability. This was announced on Thursday morning by the environmental councilor of Lorca, María Hernández Benítez.

«This award is a recognition of the municipality for its work, for the quality of its beaches in terms of the environment, tourism, and durability, to showcase its efforts, innovations, and achievements,» said María Hernández. For the Ecoplayas Pavilion award, a comprehensive technical view of all aspects of the beach, such as sand, water quality, specialized certifications, erosion control, as well as normalization and accessibility for people with reduced mobility, among other factors.

The environmental councilor emphasized that «this year, the renovation of the EcoPlayas Pavilion was the result of the effort made by the Lorca government to enhance aspects related to the beaches, from improving signage to facilitating accessibility, as well as addressing erosion issues in the sandy area of the bay during the damage period.»

In addition, Hernández Benítez added that, given the significant value of the Calnegre Cala environment, criteria related to environmental awareness and dissemination of environmental issues were also evaluated; as well as the constant collaboration of Lorquino in population dissemination, to promote conditions for the turtle (Caretta Caretta) on the beaches and early detection of nesting, through the initiative of the Oceanographic Foundation and the General Directorate of Natural Environment.

The Lorquina coast has achieved excellence in its maintenance, thanks to the ongoing work carried out by the Lorca government to increase the projection, dissemination, and protection of the city’s beaches. «We have to be proud because we are grateful for what we already knew: Cove Calnegre is an exceptional place to enjoy the environment, the sea, and tourism,» said the environmental mayor.

«From the local council, we trust that this award, alongside the Blue Flag, will encourage Spanish Levante visitors to come to the splendid miles of the Virgin Lorquina coast and enjoy a unique space, allowing quality tourism to thrive in the southern districts of the municipality,» said María Hernández.

The candidacy was presented by the Department of Urban Planning and the Environment in the seventeenth edition of the «Eccoplayas 2025» awards organized by the Technical Association for Waste, Urban, and Environmental Management (Ategrus) to award the best beaches in each Spanish region according to Sustainability Criteria.

It should be noted that, in October 2013, Calnegre Cala received this recognition for the first time for the implementation of sustainable cleaning, maintenance, and regeneration systems, a prize that has been renewed annually due to the improvements and innovations made at Calnegre Cala each summer season, for sustainable tourism.
