June 20, 2025. The balcony of the Lorca Municipal Council organized this touch of the Councils and the Ministers’ Hymn on Friday, which traditionally announces in the city the Corpus Christi procession. This traditional-religious civic act dates back to the late 18th century and is celebrated on the eve of Corpus to call Lorquinos and Lorquinas to the procession that will take place in the streets of the Historic Center on Sunday, June 22 from San Patrice, after the previous mass began at 19:00.
The event started promptly at 12 noon, with the hymn music played by the ministers in the chapters of the old Collegiate School of San Patricio; This was responded to by the clarifiers from the council balcony, repeating the ceremony three times and interrupting the bells in the chapterhouse. Dating back to the late 18th century, the sounds of the Clarineros Cabili del Consejo and the March of the Ministers make up the anthem of the city of Lorca, as it was approved by the municipal plenary of Lorca on February 23, 1994.
As historical sources from the 16th century attest, there were musicians from the Minister’s service of the Lorca Council, whose function was to assist in all those religious ceremonies or other solemn public events to receive and bid farewell to the corporation with the sounds of the three Chirrimías and Sacabuche, which were the instruments that were part of the ministries. Similarly, the council also had clarifiers; These musicians formed the council’s representative tribunal when attending solemn ceremonies, such as Holy Week, liturgical holidays in honor of Virgen de Lashas, the Corpus procession, among others.
In the announcement of the Corpus Christi procession, the episcopal vicar of Lorca, Francisco Frufoso Andrés; Arquea, Juan José Torroglosa; and the parish priest of the old school at San Patricio, Nicolás Poyato, along with other priests from the city, who after the call arrived at Plaza de España to greet the members of the Municipal Corporation. On this occasion, the call also involved a large group of students from the Mother of God School in Mercectaria and the San Francisco de Asís College, who performed different songs. The children were stationed at the foot of the chapter rooms.
On Sunday, the streets of the historic center will be covered with a carpet of rosemary and chamomile to organize the procession of the Holy Sacrament, which will be carried to a silver and gold ostensorium, transported to a float launched in June 1950.
