Mayor Belén Díaz: «Not only do they enrich our passionate biblical parades with their marches, but every time they perform outside, they carry the name of the flag, promoting Holy Week in Spain.»
July 11, 2025. The musical group Virgen de Amargura commemorates two decades of unwavering trajectory and commitment to Pasaje Blanco and Holy Week in Lorca this year. Twenty years that have made an indispensable reference in brotherly music at a national level.
On this anniversary, the group has prepared a comprehensive program of activities that will take place throughout 2025 and 2026. Under the slogan «Music in the Temple,» the main cycle includes concerts in different churches in the city, which began on June 27 at the Santiago parish. The next concert will be on October 19 at the San Diego parish, and on December 14, a solidarity concert in favor of Caritas was organized at the San Patricio School.
In addition to the «Music in the Temple» cycle, the celebration will include an opening day on October 5, participation in the Magna procession in Murcia on November 15, or in the solidarity concert «Antonio Jesús» on January 18, 2026, for the benefit of the Triana girl, reaffirming the commitment to society, as well as the regional esporist.
As part of the social commitment that characterized the group from its origins, a national solidarity project was also launched in collaboration with the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Zone III (AEMA III). Through the «Eccomi» march procedure, composed by the well-known liturgical song by Marco Frisina, other musical groups are invited to join this cause for a small contribution of solidarity. The initiative aims to raise funds to improve the quality of life of people affected by multiple sclerosis and other similar pathologies, using music as a tool for unity, visibility, and social support.
The councilor of Lorca, Belén Díaz, who participated on Friday in the presentation of these activities alongside the president of Paso Blanco, Ramón Mateos, wanted to join in recognizing the group, emphasizing that «celebrating the 20 years of the Virgin of Amargura is to celebrate two decades of love.»
Similarly, the councilors added that «for the members of Paso Blanco, but also for all the people of Lorca, it is a pride to have a formation that adds to musical excellence, social commitment, outstanding performance acts, and solid events throughout the year, and the passion for our Holy Week,» and concluded «we want to encourage all Lorca residents to participate and attend the events organized by the Virgen de Amargura and the Paso Blanco, it will be a magnificent opportunity to enjoy the different procession marches they have in their repertoire and the talent that all the musicians are part of.»
Meanwhile, the president of Paso Blanco emphasized that «the musical group Virgen de Amargura represents the healthy soul of our brotherhood. These twenty years are a reflection of the dedication, evolution, and talent of the generations of musicians who have enriched their heritage with each touch of the drum, each note, but today.
He also stated that «today, the musical group Virgen de Amargura is not just a band: it is a living legacy, shared emotion, and an undeniable symbol of the White identity. Twenty years ago, a group of musicians from Paso Blanco, with dreams and aspirations, founded this group in hope, and over time, they have connected every note and built a community, grown over the years, grown through the years, grown through the years, grown through the years.
Music with History
These twenty years not only mark the anniversary of the founding of the Musical Group in 2005 but also record a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The first mention of «Blanca» was in 1863, in a municipal document related to the participation of Paso Blanco in the Corpus Christi procession. However, its origins date back to the years between 1855 and 1863, under the impetus of the first president of the Albe Nazarene section of Our Lady, Mr. José Antonio Rebollo Zamora.
Since then, music has been a constant in the future of Paso Blanco, represented by musicians who started with sumptuous military uniforms and later with the emblematic Roman costumes of Emperor Tiberius, known as «Armado,» which became another element of the Biblical Court.
After various stages of dissolution, merger, and reorganization, including its temporary integration into the municipal music band in 1973, the excitement reappeared with the formation of a new cornet and drum band promoted by then-president Don Mora Parra. The White sound once again captured its own identity with the «armed» attire, various tools, and a clear future vocation.
This band is made up of a small number of musicians eager to work, with an emphasis on the youth of some of its members. Over the years, some distinctive trumpet touches, like (the three, a small part of the Paso Blanco anthem) and a very particular drum touch.
This new band solidified in the 90s, with the addition of musical director Francisco Javier García Zafra, who professionalized the band’s activities and introduced innovations like the Gaita Group. From 1995 to 1996, the band started a new renovation, splitting into two—the main band (Roman) and the children’s band, which would be the path where the initial band was stocked with musicians.
The turning point came in 2006 with the official presentation of the musical group Virgen de Amargura, a formation that brings together key errors, three pistons, trumpets, a two-voltage drum stop, handcrafted drums, and Chinese boxes, forging an unconscious style in biblical-passion parades.
