The transfer was carried out by the heritage mayor, Belén Pérez, who announced that the proposal will be taken to the next plenary session, with the support of the Vox municipal group.
The Municipal Council granted the building to the State for free with the condition of returning the property that is not dedicated to the proposed purpose within a certain period.
Belén Pérez, heritage mayor: «We see this request as more than convenient, especially due to the fact that we do not have a completion date for the works, allowing for the continuity of the projects we have undertaken to regenerate the historical caste and the surroundings of the old Colegio Colegial de San Patricio.»
José Martínez, an industrial development advisor: «We recall that one of the conditions of the award contract was the purpose for which the state achieves within five years, and this destination is maintained for the next thirty years.
Lorca, June 27, 2025. «There have been numerous occasions where the city of Lorca addressed the national government to inquire about the progress of the construction works of the Lorca Justice Palace, requesting information on the progress of the works, the final term for completion, or possible surcharges, in addition to the effective coordinator’s claim.
With this impetus, the Heritage mayor, Belén Pérez, announced an initiative proposed by the popular municipal group, with the support of the Vox municipal group, which will be taken to the next plenary session, where the Lorca government will request the central executive of the property housing the current flow of the justice palace.
«The direct consequences will be, among other things, that the projects carried out for the regeneration of the historical center and the surroundings of the old collegiate colleague can continue, including the commercial mayor, hospitality, and urban aspects,» added the mayor.
It should be remembered that the plenary session of the Corporation, in a session held on December 9, 1975, adopted, among others, the following agreement: «Grant to the State and, on its behalf, to the Ministry of Justice, exclusively for the construction of a Justice Palace, conditioned by the proposed investment by the municipal heritage property, which is dedicated for a certain period.»
To this, is added the order of January 31, 1977, by which the General Directorate of Finance, through the Ministry of the Interior delegation, authorized the City of Lorca (Murcia) to transfer the aforementioned municipal property building to the State (Ministry of Justice) for free.
Finally, in the second clause of the public deed to donate the property, formalized before a notary on September 20, 1978, it was established that the condition of this contract was that the purpose for which the mission was carried out was «fulfilled by the state within five years» and that this destination was maintained, in the following two, accordingly.
«In the absence of information from the Government of Spain, it is added that a certain, specific, and the following date is not available for the end of the new Justice Palace and the subsequent transfer of the current addictions of the municipal property, from Corregidor Street,» said José Martínez.
«This is the reason why we understand the convenience of requesting the reversion due to the loss of the purpose or destination that motivated the agreed transfer, so that the property of the Municipal Council will return and can be dedicated to fulfilling the objectives of municipal public interest, including the objects,» concluded the advisor.
