Renovando nuestro compromiso con la igualdad y la diversidad

On June 28, LGTBI+ Pride is internationally commemorated. A day to remember and demand equality, dignity, and freedom for all individuals, regardless of who they love or how they identify. Human rights should be universal. This is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, protects our constitution, and guarantees our rule of law. A commitment that positioned Spain as an international reference for recognizing individual rights and freedoms.

But even today, from public administrations and society as a whole, we must continue working to eradicate any form of discrimination, intolerance, or rejection. Because, unfortunately, in many countries, diversity is still a crime. In too many places in the world, living freely means living in fear.

Therefore, every June 28 is not just a holiday, but also a responsibility: a call for real equality, here and around the worldand to promote the decriminalization of homosexuality, which still carries penalties such as imprisonment, lashes, or even the death penalty in approximately twenty countries. It is necessary to continue defending businesses that respect, appreciate, and protect diversity.

From the municipal level, we continue to promote a coexistence based on respect, education, and tolerance, through initiatives promoted by the Department of Social Policies, which not only this month of June, but throughout the year, is directly and transversely with the group.

This plenary session today symbolizes the common activity of associations, institutions, and groups to build an environment in which every person can develop freely, without fear or prejudice. A space that emphasizes the importance of education, awareness, and dialogue as fundamental pillars of social cohesion.

From the city of Yecla, we renew our commitment to continue together, hand in hand, towards a more inclusive society. Because dignity and equality are not achieved with banners or empty words, but with democratic responsibility, daily work, and collective commitment.

It’s not about ideologies or symbols, but about people. And every person should be able to feel respected and represented, without labels or stigma, because diversity is simply natural. Because freedom also means that every person can live their sexual orientation or gender identity as they wish, and this is that diversity does not require uniformity or imposed labels. True inclusion arises when it is recognized that there is not a single way to be, feel, or express oneself.

From Yecla, we reaffirm our commitment to a coexistence where no one feels excluded, silenced, or instrumentalized. Let’s continue moving forward, with responsibility, towards a society where living freely, without fear and with dignity, is a reality for everyone.
