Fulgencio Gil participated in a working meeting with the mayor of this municipality, Iván Borrell, to address issues of interest related to folklore, youth, and sports, as well as a joint action that will take place in September.
He also took part in the delivery of an image of the Virgin of Las Huertas, the patron of Lorca, at the Mauguio parish, a gift from the Lorca City Council to the Municipal Corporation of Mauguio during his last visit to our city.
It should be noted that Lorca also maintains twinning relationships with other French cities such as Vias and Adissan.
On June 21, 2025, the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar, made an institutional visit to the French city of Mauguio, with whom our municipality has been twinned since 1999. This visit was based on the strong historical, social, and cultural ties that unite both populations, as many residents of Mauguio are originally from Lorca who have emigrated to this French region.
During his stay, Fulgencio Gil participated in a working meeting in the city of Mauguio, accompanied by its mayor, Iván Borrell, members of the municipal corporation, and representatives of different local entities. In this meeting, the partnership obligations and cooperation between the two municipalities were strengthened, and a joint action to be held in September in Lorca was established, with more details to be provided soon. Additionally, various topics of interest related to folklore, youth, and sports were discussed.
Furthermore, during the visit, an image of the Virgin of Las Huertas, the patron of Lorca, was presented at the Mauguio parish. This was a gift from Lorca to the Municipal Corporation of Mauguio during their last visit to our city. With this donation, Mauguio now has the second image of the Virgin of Las Huertas in the French Republic, as another one is located in a different French municipality, maintained by a Spanish citizen residing in that country.
Mayor Lorca’s institutional agenda also included participation in various cultural and traditional events in the French municipality, including their traditional pilgrimage, shared with the residents of Mauguio, a visit to Carnon harbor, and a presence to admire a local artist Jordi’s work at Plaza Precuet.
It is worth noting that Lorca also maintains twinning relationships with other French locations such as VIA and Adissan, thus continuing international connections that enhance the cultural and social projection of our municipality.
