Lorca, June 12, 2025. Mayor of Urbanism, Maria Hernandez, announced, along with the General Director of Territory and Architecture Planning, Javier Rollán, a new step in the sustainable urbanization process in our municipality. The Lorca Municipal Council has approved the award of the contract related to «services for the preparation of digital cartography of the photogrammetric flight of the urbanized land in Lorca, including the historic precinct and its city protection environment».
The most important aspect of this intervention and as a novelty to update the general urban planning plan is the extension of the implementation of digital mapping in the new areas of urban lands in the districts, on a scale of 1:1000, a total of 50 hectares not included in the specifications. We are talking about Almendros, in Paca, Río, in Hoya, and Zarcilla de Ramos. And at no additional cost, due to improvements in auction conditions.
The company is already working with the technicians from the planning and management service of the urban planning department. «The entity has already submitted the flight project, which will be carried out in July and August, although any weather inclination must be taken into account,» said the mayor.
In total, the work, including the digital cartography of the urban districts, has an execution period of 9 months.
The financing to carry out all this work is provided due to the direct subsidy to the Municipal Council by the CARM of 200,000 euros to promote and improve the urban dimension of the Historic Center and its recovery as a strategic regional project and under the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure, from the Carma to the Proposal of the General Directorate of Territorial and Architectural Management of the CARMA.
Hernández added that «with the creation of these flights, all necessary actions for the elaboration of detailed studies of vacant urban lands existing in historical premises will be carried out, prioritizing the existing lots in the defined axes in Alamo Street, Cava, and Selgas, as well as the new urban areas of Piddies».
The purpose of this subsidy is to promote the achievement of the objectives defined in the management plan for the recovery of the historical complex of Lorca and to empower the autonomous community of the region.
«This is the first line of urban aid provided by our municipality, so from here I want to reiterate our thanks to the regional government and the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure. This is a contribution that adds to the over 1.6 million euros of European aid granted to the autonomous community and transferred to the real estate park under its ownership, as Hernández recalled.
New general urban planning plan
In conclusion, the mayor highlighted the importance of the new areas they will work on. «Touching the districts is an important stage within the new general urban planning plan that we provide by the local council and that will permanently correct urban excesses, establish uses in line with the reality of current plots, both for residential lands and to establish zoning for the implementation of businesses and services».
At this moment, we must remember the recent investments of 968,000 euros from the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure to achieve a cartographic and urban digitalization of 16 municipalities in the region of Murcia, including Lorca.
With all these actions, Lorca will have mapped around 70% of the land in the municipality before the year, a complete urban stage in the municipality.»
