June 6, 2025. The municipal cleaning company, Limus, will improve waste collection and advanced recycling, due to a change in the management of glass packaging (green bell) in the municipality. This was announced on Friday by the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar, while signing a collaboration agreement with Ecovidrio to carry out these actions.
Fulgencio Gil stated that the agreement entails Ecovidrio assuming that such collection and transport to the factory will be undertaken by Ecovidrio, a responsible entity in Spain for managing, nationally, the recycling of single-use glass containers. It also includes modifying emptying programs, increasing container supply, and a maximum collection period after a filling warning.
He also added that this Agreement is responsible for «a common strategy to improve efficiency in waste management and respond to a neighborhood request related to the noise generated during night collection due to the impact of hundreds of kilograms of this waste falling into the collection box.» Each bell can accommodate up to a ton of glass containers. «Due to this fact, glass collection will be carried out in programs according to citizens, significantly reducing noise disturbances and benefiting the rest of the neighborhood, especially in residential areas,» he emphasized.
It should be noted that this change only affects the green container (glass), so the rest of the collection including the fraction (gray container), organic containers (browns), light containers (yellows), and paperboard (blue) will continue to be managed by Limusa.

Glass Recycling in Lorca and Environmental Benefits
Glass container recycling is a key element in the fight against climate change and the decarbonization of our economy. It is also essential to transition to a more circular development model rooted in the 2030 agenda.
