May 8, 2025. The culture councilor of the Lorca Municipal Council, Santiago Parra Soriano, opened on Thursday the exhibition «Subsection», by the Canarian artist Gloria Díaz, at an event organized at the Hallo Ruano Palace. The exhibition, which will remain open to the public until the 30th, pays tribute to the lawyer from Lorca, Juan Alcázar Alcázar, recently deceased and a close personal friend of the painter.
«Today Lorca is hosting an exceptional exhibition, both for the talent of its author and for the deep emotional connection that this show establishes with our city,» said Santiago Parra during the opening. «Gloria Díaz gives us a retrospective of her artistic career full of sensitivity, emotion, and tribute. Especially the portrait she dedicates to Juan Alcázar is a work of great beauty that honors his memory with it.»
The exhibition occupies all the rooms of the Homo Ruano Palace, given the large amount of work transferred by the artist’s assembly team. Under the title of «Subsection», the exhibition proposes a visual tour of the most representative creations of Gloria Díaz, an art drawing teacher and a notable figure in the national and international art scene.
Native of Tijarafe, on the island of Palma (1953), Gloria Díaz has had an extensive career as a painter and teacher. Her work has been exhibited in cities such as New York, Madrid, and various locations in Venezuela, Murcia, Tenerife, Palma, Lanzarote, Furteventura, and Galicia, among others. In her artistic production, there is a constant aesthetic search, with her own language that has evolved during decades of study, teaching, and creation.
«We invite all Lorca residents and visitors to enjoy this exhibition in May. It is a unique opportunity to get to know the work of an extraordinary artist and pay tribute to an attractive figure, like Lorquino Juan Alcázar,» concluded the mayor of culture.
Entry to the exhibition is free of charge, during the regular opening hours of the Ruano Garden.
