This evening, the closing ceremony took place, with the symbolic handover of the collection, a meeting in which #Challenge’s president, Francisco Montes, and the representative of «My Rett Princess» in Lorca, Daniel, also participated.
Furthermore, during the night, there was a recognition of different figures who have been part of the #retosipuedo club for 10 years.
The name of the association that will be the focus of the annual solidarity project in 2025 was announced: Apat-Lorca.
Lorca, February 6, 2025. The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar, presided over the closing ceremony of #retoysipudo 2024, whose main project last year was #retto with my Rett princess. The event took place at Arcas Ies Ramón and was attended by members of the Municipal Corporation, Mass-Media, association presidents that the entity has collaborated with, team runners and their families, collaborators, and presidents of other Lorca clubs.
Alongside the Mayor, #Challenge’s president, Francisco Montes, and the representative of «My Rett Princess» in Lorca, Daniel García, expressed gratitude for the final contribution collected, totaling €19,200. This amount will be directed towards funding seven sensory rooms, one for each girl currently suffering from Rett syndrome in the Guadalentín region.
To raise funds, the #retosipuedo team engaged in the «sale of kilometers» during various sports events at a symbolic price of one euro. This was complemented by other solidarity actions like food charity events held last September, as well as the sale of drums and personalized tubular bracelets with the name of the association «My Princess Rett» and the club, among others.
In his address, Fulgencio Gil highlighted «the significant beneficial work carried out by #retosipedo over twelve years, choosing sports as a mechanism to contribute to various causes and local groups; for this, the Municipal Council extends its utmost gratitude and congratulations to the entire team that makes these initiatives possible, focusing this year on the Princess Rett Association.»
On his part, Francisco Montes expressed that «it was an honor to contribute, to the best of our ability, to the lives of these girls suffering from this disease.» The sensory rooms are portable modules equipped with physical and electronic mechanisms that produce various sounds, images, and tactile sensations to stimulate patients, improving their perceptions. As portable units, these facilities could be used by new users if needed, with a total cost of nearly €20,000.
Montes also emphasized «the underlying solidarity of all activities proposed by the entity and the passion that the entire Lorquino running team puts into each stage and day, typically drawing large crowds of spectators and participants, demonstrating the community’s great passion for sports and solidarity.»
Following this, runners who have been part of the club for 10 years were recognized, as well as the Virgen del Alcázar Hospital in Lorca, a major sponsor at that time.
Finally, before concluding, the association that will be the focus of the annual solidarity project in 2025 was announced as Apat-Lorca, the Early Intervention Association in Lorca.
