Nuestra principal preocupación es la gente

Fulgencio Gil Jódar visits this service for the Lorquinos affected by the storm, located in the urban planning department, which received over twenty inquiries at the beginning of its time.

Interested parties can receive advice on the steps to take from now on, regarding potential aid applications or how to act in relation to their insurance, among other things.

Additionally, a direct phone line was available: 968 40 66 90, as well as an online form, downloadable through the website.

The urban planning officials are responsible for providing all the information on the actions that will be taken in each case, to expedite any procedures, while managing the declaration of a catastrophic area.

Lorca, March 10, 2025. The mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar, oversaw the implementation of the citizen assistance office for those affected by the rains, activated by the local council, after the recent marked and intense rainfall in the municipality.

The mayor emphasized that «the priority is the people, especially in the face of a disaster like the one that has just struck us. We know the importance of providing a swift response in such circumstances. The heavy rains have affected many Lorquinos in various areas of the municipality. From the government of Lorca, we continue to assess and address the incidents in the area, most of them in record time, but the entire city has been severely impacted.»

This new office is located in the urban planning department, at La Merced, and is staffed by municipal officials and technicians in the field. «I want to thank the municipal staff for their prompt on-site assessments of the damages. We have launched a campaign to inspect facades, particularly in the Historic Center and other areas where damages have been reported. Now, this staff will have to handle this additional workload, all to speed up the administrative processes that residents must follow due to the conditions caused by the rains,» said Gil Jódar.

They will be responsible for providing all the information and guidance on the actions to be taken in each case. Victims can learn about the steps to take from now on, how to access future aid, or how to deal with their insurance, among other things.

Furthermore, due to the high number of visits and requests received in the initial hours, primarily focused on slopes and moisture, the urban planning department set up a direct care phone line, 968 40 66 90, to facilitate information for citizens, avoiding unnecessary movements, and an online form available on the Lorca website.

Impact in the Alotos neighborhoods

At present, there are 16 individuals, residents of 7 properties, who have been treated and assisted, all in the higher neighborhoods of the city, especially in the neighborhoods of San Juan, San Pedro, and Santa María. «This is a situation that recurs whenever there are heavy or persistent rains, mainly due to moisture seepage in the basement, where several springs are present,» said the mayor.

Gil Jódar explained that «we continue to assess the area and remain attentive to any new requirements from the residents. This municipality is known for its rapid expansion, and we have been working from the first alert not only here but also in districts and neighborhoods, striving to provide an immediate response. For us, the most important thing is to assist the people with all the tools at our disposal.»
