La Policía Nacional arrested 55 people in Murcia in an investigation against fraudsters to obtain Social Security benefits, according to sources from the police department in a statement.
Specifically, the arrested individuals are being charged with alleged crimes of document forgery, social security fraud, kidnapping, and fraud.
The detainees are believed to be part of a criminal framework dedicated to illegally unloading foreign citizens after they had made a previous payment to regularize their situation in Spanish territory.
The investigation, initiated by National Police officers in collaboration with labor and Social Security inspectors in Murcia in early 2024, led to a man who acted as a labor advisor for agricultural companies.
Exploiting his position of trust and broad maneuverability, the advisor illegally unloaded foreign citizens into the Social Security system in exchange for money, without the business owners being aware.
The goal was to regularize the situation of these individuals in the country, facilitate residency permit renewals, and obtain public provisions for unemployment without having done any work.
The alleged leader charged an average of 3,000 euros per person for his services, reaching up to 9,000 euros in some cases. Agents found that 9 of these alleged workers, who had never carried out any work activities in the agricultural companies where they were registered, received up to 28,300 euros in public benefits.
Furthermore, the investigation could reveal that this labor advisor had pocketed nearly 40,000 euros from companies managing agricultural farms.
The investigation concluded with the arrest of all individuals involved in this criminal network, who illegally benefited from the illicit services offered by this alleged advisor.
The National Police reported the facts to the competent judicial authority, continuing to inform relevant institutions about the revocation of residency permits obtained fraudulently.
