Lorca revierte la tendencia negativa en seguridad ciudadana en 2024

The annual balance published by the Ministry of the Interior confirms a «dry brake» in the increase of complaints that break the negative trend that has been dragging on for 8 years. This increase in 2023 was 20.2% and in 2022 it was 22.4%.

It is a turning point, confirming that the changes introduced by the Lorca government have worked and significantly improved the situation. We are faced with good news that serves as a stimulus to continue progressing.

Juan Miguel Bayonas, mayor of citizen security: «We congratulate the local police officers for their dedication and commitment to safety, as well as our colleagues from the Guardia Civil and the National Police. We request more efficient support from the Ministry of the Interior because we cannot do this task alone.»

Lorca, February 17, 2025. The advisor for citizen security in the city of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas, reported that in 2024 we managed to halt the growth of reported incidents in our municipality. Between 2019-2023, there was a constant increase, reaching 22.4% in the last year of the previous government (2022). These figures contrast with the trend shift seen with the current Lorca government, which has improved this number by almost twenty points, now standing at only 1%.

This is the result of doing things right, so we will continue to push in the same direction. We managed to change the course and stop a ship that was adrift. We broke the trend, but the goal is to reach a point where we see a decrease in the number of incidents. It’s about reversing the trend, which we achieved. It should be noted that in the past year, we have almost completely neutralized this negative trend that the municipality has suffered in recent years. These results are encouraging for all of us and motivate us to keep working and intensifying our efforts.

According to the recent annual balance from the Ministry of the Interior, the trend over the past years is as follows: in 2018, incidents increased by 9.6%, in 2019 by 8.4%, in 2021 by 18.1%, in 2023 the growth was 20.2%, and in 2024 it decreased by 19.1 points, now standing at only 1%, representing 3,668 complaints.

More officers, more facilities, and more security.
This improvement, we must emphasize, is the result of dedication, effort, and commitment from all the members of our local police force, as well as our partners in the Guardia Civil and National Police. These numbers should make us all proud. We in Lorca are clear about what needs to be done. We take careful note of what our citizens require, and therefore, we will continue to increase the number of locations for our local police and install more security rooms to monitor any incidents in urban streets and neighborhoods. In this regard, it’s worth mentioning that the Lorca government will be the first in the history of the municipality to install this useful tool throughout our districts.

This is our response, and now we await the response from the central government. It’s evident that the staffing levels of the National Guard and Civil Guard do not meet the current needs of such a wide municipal area like ours. They fall short. We regret that the effort put in by the Municipal Council so far has not been adequately supported by the Ministry of the Interior. We cannot do this alone. Therefore, we will continue to offer our hand, maximum collaboration, and absolute loyalty to keep improving security data in Lorca, which is truly important for our citizens. We respond and urge citizens to report any incidents that occur in the municipality.
