Expansión de red de bibliotecas en Lorca con apertura de biblioteca «San José»

Located in Ana Căiceo Richard School, it opens to the public from Monday to Thursday after having more than 2,000 copies for children and adults.

With this new cultural space, the library network already has eight branches in Pidies, two in downtown neighborhoods, as well as in the Children’s Library and Pilar Barnés.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil Jódar, visited on Wednesday, coinciding with International Book Day, the new public library «San José», located in Ana Căicando Richard, childhood primary and primary, childhood and primary manager. With this opening, the municipal library network already has twelve spaces, thus strengthening the commitment of the Lorca government to culture and education in the municipality.

Fulgencio Gil emphasized that «this new space is an example of good management of municipal resources, as it allows to offer a double service: in the morning as a school library and in the afternoon as a public library open to all Lorcan.» He also emphasized that «Lorca is a national reference in this model of ‘mixed libraries’ or ‘dual use’, which optimizes public resources and facilitates access to reading and knowledge.»

Located in a spacious and bright space, the public library «San José» opens from Monday to Thursday, from 16 to 19 hours, and offers a service for all ages, from babies to adults, in addition to having suitable furniture and a selection of approximately 2,000 copies. Of these, half had already been in the Ceip Ana Căiceo Richard library, and a thousand titles are new for the local council of all genres, but with special attention to literary works, novels, literature for children and young people, comics, cinema, and digital reading.

The mayor emphasized that «from the Lorca government we want to have dynamic libraries adapted to current needs. Therefore, we have incorporated sections such as the young adult, with current titles for the 14 to 18-year-old audience, or Comicida, a space that has had a great boom in recent months to provide young titles of this genre.» In addition, the library has an easy reading fund, designed for people with difficulty in reading comprehension, both adults and children, as well as large print books for adults with vision problems.

Babies also enjoy a special fund of educational games of an educational nature (stackable, suitable, …) and books designed especially to stimulate the senses, develop visual acuity, among others. Early readers also have classic stories and a collection of new illustrated albums.

Furthermore, the mayor wanted to appreciate the importance of the municipal library network in Lorca, which has grown progressively since its establishment in 2006 and continues to expand every year. «Each new library that opens is another step in the commitment we made to education and access to culture. We do not stop; we want to continue expanding this network and bringing public services to all Lorquinos. Since we took office, the service has been extended in the Pedanias and neighborhoods libraries and opening to four days.» It should be noted that the municipal library network includes the Pilar Barnés Municipal Library, the new children’s librarians.

With this new library, the Municipal Council strengthens access to books and knowledge for all Lorquinos, regardless of their age or condition. «We have shown that, with good management and planning, it is possible to expand the library offer without this being a loss of resources. This new library is a clear example of how municipal infrastructure can be made in most of the municipal infrastructure, so we encourage all locations to come to this cultural space, to participate in different areas and Municipal,» Gil concluded at the different activities that will be scheduled from the different municipal areas.

During the visit, which coincided with International Book Day, the students of Ana Căiceo Richard were able to enjoy a storytelling show led by the actress and narrator Inma Guillén.
