The Lorca Correct Institution (IFE) will be filled with talent and aroma with forty-five creations from eighty chefs in the region, from over twenty localities in the region, facing the challenge of focusing on a maximum of three creativity, technique, and innovation. The competition is held in the «ShowCooking» format, which requires them to cook their creation, offering a program that can be followed in person or streamed through www.academiadelatapa.com and the social media channels of Academia Tapa and Pintxo in Spain, organizing the entity.
Mayte Martínez highlighted the role of this championship as a showcase of culinary talent and a driving force for the local hospitality sector and the economic revitalization of the city. The municipality is experiencing an extraordinary moment in the gastronomic and tourism fields, the result of the joint effort of professionals, entrepreneurs, and the Municipal Council itself, which has firmly positioned itself as a regional and national reference. «This initiative gives us the opportunity to showcase the richness and diversity of our cuisine, the quality of our products, and the talent of our chefs,» said the hospitality councilor, adding that this is already reflected because «our hoteliers have increased sales on the third route. With nine units participating in Lorquino, Lorca is positioned at the top of the regional gastronomic scene.»
The mayor of hospitality said that in Lorca, «we have a culinary offering that is increasingly recognized and appreciated, due to the creativity and talent of our chefs, who reach exceptional levels and know how to combine tradition with innovation, using local products in most preparations. This championship is a magnificent showcase to continue strengthening Lorca as a gastronomy reference city, which is why once again we have the regional government of our president Fernando López Miras, who chose the municipality to host this third edition of the Tapas and Skewers championship,» he added.
Additionally, the tourism councilor indicated that the celebration of this championship continues to be a testament to the tourism boom that Lorca has experienced in the past year. «We have made our city an attractive, dynamic, and capable destination to host top-level events. With this type of initiative, we attract visitors, create jobs, and promote local commerce. We not only want Lorca to be recognized for its historical and cultural heritage, but also for its gastronomy, as an essential destination for food enthusiasts, and we have achieved this because more Lorchins choose to stay and enjoy what their own city offers instead of seeking alternatives,» he explained.
Santiago Parra also wanted to highlight the positive impact that events like this have on the municipality because «hospitality and tourism are key sectors in the city, this championship is a showcase of regional and local culinary excellence and its impact on the tourism projection of the territory. From the Lorca government, we are working steadfastly so that this trend continues to grow»; and he concluded that «our city is no longer a ‘dormitory city,’ but rather a destination where citizens find a cultural, touristic, gastronomic, and recent level. More and more Lorquinos decide to stay here to enjoy everything they offer, and undoubtedly, a sign that we are on the right path.»
Juan Francisco Martínez, the director of the Tourism Institute in the Region of Murcia, emphasized during the opening ceremony the support of the autonomous community for this championship, which «will position Lorca as a gastronomic capital and will once again showcase the richness of the region.»
In this regard, Martínez said that this championship is much more than a culinary competition and defined it as a new showcase of the region as a genuine gastronomic power, a sector that he mentioned generates 45,000 jobs and entails an economic impact of 700 million euros.

The region of Murcia as a reference in miniature gastronomy.»
In the same vein, Diego Aoca, the head of hospitality, Murcia from Mahou San Miguel, expressed his belief that initiatives like this contribute greatly to stimulating local hospitality and enhancing the gastronomy of our region. «At Mahou, we believe that gatherings among people are essential for a better life, and what better than some tapas and drinks with friends to facilitate these gatherings.»

This competition presents a challenge to encourage hoteliers to excel and design both the qualities of their cuisine and the room of the region, which also demonstrates that high cuisine can be accessible, innovative, and profitable. Lorca weaves, with this initiative, a connection between the gastronomic tradition and the heritage of the region, two strong arguments for a complete charm.
