In the following days, the Ministry of Social Policy will present the document before the final approval Council

The Economic and Social Council of the Region of Murcia (CES) unanimously approved the Regional Social Service Plan in its plenary session on May 12. The approved opinion highlights the technical quality of the content and the excellent diagnosis of social problems and needs as a result of an extensive participatory process involving experts and professionals.
CES also believes that the objectives and measures contained in the plan are necessary to complete the development of the regional law on social services, which will implement a model to finance stable social services, continuity over time, and a more equitable distribution of resources.
The Director General of Social Services, the third sector, and diversity management, María José de Maya, explained that after this opinion from CES, «the next step is to present the document to the Management Council for final approval. From there, the region of Murcia will already have a social service plan that will benefit over 90,000 people in a social situation.»
De Maya recalled that «some of the more than 200 measures collected in this plan have already begun to be implemented, and others will be progressively implemented by 2028 to meet these needs that require more social support and intervention.» Therefore, the actions aim to strengthen social care and improve existing resources, as well as create specific plans for the most vulnerable groups.
In this sense, the new plan envisions the design of sectoral plans for the homeless, the elderly, the Roma or immigrant population, among others. It also addresses new social needs, such as family conflicts, dependencies among the youth population, the increase in mental health problems, the undesired loneliness of the elderly, and a specific strategy to combat poverty.
It also includes the implementation of a reference professional figure to ensure the continuity of the care received by the user and progress in the digitization of social service systems in each municipality.
