El gobierno de Lorca reduce la deuda del Consejo Municipal en 78 millones y obtiene los mejores datos en el último trimestre

The municipal council’s debt has been reduced from over 105 million euros to 27.3 million today, thanks to cost control measures, efficient management, and effective use of public resources.

The mayor emphasizes that the proposal to forgive debts in Catalonia is particularly offensive to the people of Lorca, given the effort put into reducing debt over the years.

Fulgencio Gil: «We are astonished at how, instead of rewarding those who have succeeded, billions of euros are forgiven for those who seek to break Spain. It’s not worth buying time in Moncloa.»

Wednesday, February 25, 2025. Lorca’s mayor, Fulgencio Gil, announced that the city government has reduced the Municipal Council’s debt to 27.3 million euros, a decrease of 78 million euros from the 105 million revealed in the 2008 external audit. Spain’s unity and equality among citizens are built on municipalism. Lorca sets an example of economic management, and I want to thank the citizens for making this improvement possible.

Fulgencio Gil stated that the debt reduction is great news for all Lorca residents, achieved through control and efficiency measures implemented within the Municipal Council years ago. These figures clearly show that managing and implementing true policies of rigor benefit citizens. This marks the best debt data since 2001.

In comparison, we argue that the central government acknowledges the effort made by Lorca’s citizens to achieve these results. The challenging situation left behind, worsened by the economic crisis and natural disasters in 2011 and 2012, pushed our municipality to the brink.

By applying firm criteria, things have improved, and we must continue to ensure taxpayers’ money is used for essential matters.

Lorca respects, manages, and has reduced our debt through hard work, without resorting to shortcuts seen at the national level. Debt reduction is achieved through sound management, without creating inequalities or rewarding those trying to disrupt the country at any cost. We are penalized for believing in Spain and upholding a national economic solidarity system. Granting full immigration competencies will be the ultimate test. It’s the end of a system, a failure, and a disgrace for the country.

Gil Jódar stressed that the proposal to forgive debts in Catalonia is particularly offensive to Lorca residents, given the efforts made over the years. It’s not worth trading everything for short-term gains in Moncloa. It’s indecent to pay with everyone’s money, including that of Lorca residents. This measure punishes us, rewarding wrongdoers and incompetence. This is a topsy-turvy world.

Unsuitable skills: a double injustice against Lorca
Lorca is burdened with, among other issues, beach maintenance, cleaning of urban canals (neglected by others), upkeep of industrial properties, the new garbage tax removed by SANCHE, rental of courtrooms, and the presence of the Civil Guard in the municipality. Security expenses, a prime example of inadequate funding, exceed 11 million euros annually.

Lorca residents bear numerous inappropriate burdens, costs that the central government should cover. Instead of prioritizing people and ensuring municipalities have the necessary resources, they agree to a costly fleeting agreement. Political influence shouldn’t be bought with Spanish money. Let it be clear: Lorca residents will bear the brunt of this aberration, and we will lose out.

There’s ample money to forgive Catalonia’s debt, but nothing for anti-flood dams.
The mayor questions the availability of funds to forgive billions, while essential infrastructure like dams in nuts, Béjar, Torcilla, and the Biznaga canal are neglected. This infrastructure saves lives and protects people. It’s evident that money is available for what they prioritize, without the need for economic calculations.
