El gobierno de Lorca aumenta el presupuesto de Limusa a pesar de las dificultades económicas.

Limusa will invest more than 4 million euros in 2025 to improve the cleaning and waste collection in the municipality through the purchase of new vehicles, equipment, and facility upgrades.

The high tax imposed by the central government was an additional cost of one million euros per year for the residents of Lorca.

Juan Miguel Bayonas, urban quality mayor: «Despite the challenges, from the Lorca government, we continue to increase Limusa’s budget and make numerous investments to further improve cleanliness in the municipality.»

On March 25, 2025, Juan Miguel Bayonas López, the urban quality councilor of Lorca, announced on Tuesday an increase in the budget of the municipal company Limusa for 2025, reaching 22,053,411.69 euros, representing an increase of 413,000 euros compared to the previous year. The main news is the investment of over 4 million euros in improving cleaning and waste collection services, despite the negative impact of the 7/2022 law from the Spanish government, which resulted in losses of over 350,000 euros in 2024.

Juan Miguel Bayonas explained that «the new discharge tax from the 7/2022 law decreed by the Spanish government has been an additional cost of one million euros per year for all Lorca residents, which has forced us to take measures to mitigate the impact of this legislation imposed by the central government.»

Additionally, the implementation of this law reduced 287,000 euros from the revenue obtained from the agreement with Ecombes for packaging recovery, which also affected the municipal company. «Despite this challenging scenario, and although the negative figure may suggest a deficit, we managed last year to contain the negative effects without reducing the service quality and highlighting the efficiency of value, control, and budget risk,» said the councilor. It should be noted that this year

Bayonas López highlighted the efforts of the Lorca government to improve road cleaning throughout the municipality, with an 8% increase in cleaning actions in 2024 compared to the previous year. «The most utilized method was cleaning and collecting vans, with a 66% increase in interventions, due to the immediacy offered by this service, resulting in 1,409 more cleanings than in 2023. Additionally, the creation of a specialized unit SIP allows to strengthen clean rural areas,» he added.

Looking ahead to 2025, Limusa’s Investment Plan will reach 4,269,000 euros, allocated to the purchase of six new collection vehicles, a seventh 100% electric unit, a new Sweeper, two eco-mobile clean points, a second scale for the Waste Management Center, and a general improvement of facilities and installations. «This is one of the largest investments in recent Limusa history, which we make from the Lorca government, to continue improving cleanliness and waste collection in the municipality,» said the urban quality mayor.

Juan Miguel Bayonas concluded that «we continue to bet on efficient and quality services for all Lorca residents, despite the economic challenges imposed by the Spanish Government. Our commitment to the city and to Lorca is strong, and we will continue to ensure a clean municipality that all Lorca residents can enjoy.»
