Lorca, January 28, 2025. The Lorca Municipal Council, through the Department of Protection and Civil Protection, announced that it actively maintains the «Territorial Plan for Civil Protection (Blades), in a pre-emergency phase, due to the ongoing episode of strong winds across the municipality, which, according to the forecast, will continue until 10:00 p.m., although the municipal plan will remain in place until the end of the alert, as the prediction is updated regularly.

At this time, in the Guadalentín Valley, Lorca, and Eagles-Murcia, there is a risk between 40% and 70% of strong westerly and/or northwesterly winds, with gusts of up to 80 km/h in some areas.

As Emergency Mayor José Martínez pointed out, «The state meteorological agency is closely monitoring and providing special attention to updates and notifications, with troops remaining active and vigilant for any incidents that may occur. Last night, we managed to handle about twenty notable episodes, primarily involving road obstacles, some collapses or falling objects, and free or damaged telephone lines. It’s worth mentioning the Zarcilla de Ramos district, where wind gusts reached 117 km/h yesterday.»

Therefore, the Lorca Municipal Council «requests maximum collaboration from Sorquinos to prevent, as much as possible, incidents resulting from these episodes, urging adherence at all times to the official recommendations of local authorities and entities.»

In Martínez’s words: «We urge residents to take extreme protective measures, such as:

 Removing windows, balconies, and ship roofs, as well as any objects that may fall onto the street and cause accidents.
 Securing items like covers, shutters, and antennas.
 Clearing old houses, shelves, and walls, avoiding access to buildings under construction or in poor conditions, and paying attention to urban furniture, scaffolding, soft signs, advertising fences, or any other elements that may fall or be blown by the wind. Avoid walking through gardens or wooded areas.
 Try to postpone road trips, and if necessary, check road conditions and take extreme precautions for possible obstacles on the roads.
 Avoid outdoor leisure and sports activities.
 Clear steep and sloping areas that could be exposed to falling rocks.
 During a maritime storm, do not access coastal points affected by strong waves or areas where waves break hard, avoiding beaches, rocks, defenders.

In any case, and in the event of any incident, «112 must be notified immediately to carry out the appropriate procedures and actions,» Martínez concluded.
