Santiago Parra, tourism mayor: «Marco Topo was established as one of the most requested activities by tourists visiting Lorca as a family, so we wanted to improve and include new monuments, thus responding to the growing interest they generate.»

The tourism councilor of the city of Lorca, Santiago Parra Soriano, presented on Wednesday the news that this municipal area included in the «Marco Topo» activity, an educational exploration game, so that families with children can make automatic visits to different tourist destinations and museums in the city.
As a novelty, the initiative is extended with the incorporation of the Lorca Castle as a new game scenario and updates the content in the historic center, including the Guevara Palace. «For the first time, families can enjoy the game in the castle, visiting emblematic spaces such as the synagogue, the Alfonsina Tower, or the walled enclosure. Children will learn about defensive architecture, medieval history, and the daily life of its former inhabitants while unlocking rewards,» said Santiago Parra.
He added, «In addition, the tour of the historic center was renewed with the inclusion of the interior of the Guevara Palace, recently reopened to the public after its restoration. New games, such as letter cards, mazes, and the seven differences were incorporated, designed so that children have to have their visit.»
The tourism councilor emphasized that «Marco Topo has been established as one of the most requested activities by tourists visiting Lorca as a family, thanks to its participatory, educational, and playful nature. Therefore, we wanted to improve and include new spaces, thus responding to the growing interest we want to attract.»
Parra Soriano recalled that this activity was implemented in Lorca in 2017, to promote the interest of children during cultural visits and to encourage families to have different and playful experiences around the local heritage. The city tour has a dozen stages, starting at the visitor center, passing through Santo Domingo Axis, Lope Gisbert, and Prince Alfonso, continuing through the sliding streets and the poplar, and concluding at Plaza de España. Throughout the route, questions are asked, adapted to children, about the Visitor Center, the Archaeological Museum of Lorca, El Mubla, the Church of Santiago, Pale By Hallo Ruano, Galace Guevara, Craft Center, The War College, El Mass, San Patricera, Plaza de España, and the former school.
«Marco Topo» combines physical elements (map and stickers), with an interactive web application where challenges adapted to the children’s age increase, with historical, artistic, and heritage content. Each Marco Topo adventure consists of a map of the place to explore, a set of stickers, and a web application where different challenges about heritage, historical nature… about the place visited by the family are erected. In this sense, it should be mentioned that to play Marco Topo, you only need to obtain an adventure map at the tourist office, located at Plaza de España, at the Visitor Center, and at the castle, and have a mobile phone with an Internet connection. Once the family has the map, they enter the adventure code on the Marco Topo website (www.marcotopo.com) and start playing.»
The tourism councilor added that «in the games and girls’ games, Marco Topo becomes the protagonists of a great adventure in which, accompanied by Marco Topo and his sister Marta, they will have to release the flopis, some attractive creatures that have been captured by a crazy lunar, a crazy scientist.»
