More than a hundred students from Francisco Ros Giner, Sierra de Almenara, San Juan Bosco, José Ibáñez Martín, and Bartolomé Pérez Casas.
On April 28th and 29th, seven plays will be organized in theater workshops taught at these centers during the course.
Rosa Mª Medina, Education Councilor: «This is an activity that aims to enhance the young people’s taste, as many of them are performing on stage for the first time to represent a play.»
April 24, 2025. The Margarita Lozano Auditorium will host the second youth theater show «Ciudad de Lorca» organized by the local council on April 28th and 29th. This was announced on Thursday by the Education and Culture Councilors, Rosa María Medina Mínguez and Santiago Parra Soriano, along with representatives from the centers and students.
Rosa María Medina explained, «Following the success of the last edition, we are carrying out these initiatives attended by over a hundred students from five secondary institutions in our city. Juan Bosco, José Ibáñez Martín, and Bartolomé Pérez Casas, who staged seven plays they had prepared.»
«This is an activity aimed at enhancing the taste for theater and culture, overall, the young people.» added the Education Councilor.
The exhibition will start on April 28th at 6:00 p.m. with the performance by San Juan Bosco, whose students will present the play «Hotel». Inspired by works of different genres and styles, this ensemble piece takes place at the hotel’s entrance, where various characters converge: bellhops, police, beggars, receptionists, managers, waiters, journalists, and guests of the establishment (ranging from an actor to a philanthropist, passing through a dying man searching for his life). Their lives will intersect in this friendly comedy that calls for solidarity and harmony among those living in this grand hotel that is the world.
Next, Sierra de Almenara will perform the play «The Assembly of Women» by Aristophanes. A group of women led by Praxágora decide to take the reins of the state. They sneak into the assembly disguised as men and vote to take control of Athens. From that moment on, changes will be made and they will fight against inequality.
To end the day, students from IES Bartolomé Pérez Casas will present the play «Winks», showcasing vivid stories that teach us to look beyond the obvious. There are no elaborate sets or special effects, but rather the most valuable: the power of theater to make us feel, question, and understand. Each scene in this production speaks to essential values: empathy, justice, the passage of time, and the weight of our words. From the good thief challenging appearances; to the clock reminding us of what truly matters; even to bullying, confronting a harsh reality. Each scene is an opportunity to see the world with new eyes.
On April 29th, also after 6:00 p.m., the theater show will continue with the performance of «The Crescent Theater» and musical scenes from «West Side Story» and «Moulin Rouge» by the students of José Ibáñez Martín. «The Crescent Theater,» with a selected excerpt from the play «Blood Weight,» shows the beginning of a revelation between Adela and Susan, which will trigger a new stage in the protagonist’s life. Initially, the mother tries to talk to her daughter about past issues, but the conversation is interrupted by the chaotic dynamics. Simultaneously, family tensions arise when Domingo pressures Roberto to proceed with the wedding with his daughter, rejecting any objections. The situation escalates to a point where Adela rebels against impositions, in an act of courage culminating in a physical confrontation with Domingo, reflecting the struggle for her own freedom.
In «West Side Story,» the scenes will be represented by the renowned music of Leonard Bernstein, inspired by «Romeo and Juliet» and performed by music, drama, and communication 1 high school students. While in «Moulin Rouge,» based on the movie of the same name and drawing references from «La Traviata» and «The Lady of the Camellias,» there will also be musical scenes.
Finally, students from Francisco Ros Giner will play the work «Trapped in the Museum.» A group of children wakes up and finds themselves locked in a grand museum. As they are on a trip outside their town, no one is expecting them back home, and no one is using their cell phones because they left their backpacks in the locker. Their luck is such that on the very same night, a group of thieves chooses to steal a pendant, belonging to a famous Egyptian queen, which is said to bring a legendary curse upon the possessor.
Medina Mínguez invited everyone to join at the Margarita Lozano Auditorium on Monday and the following Tuesday to «enjoy the magnificent performances of these young actors and support them during this youth theater performance, which we hope will be as successful as the previous edition,» and thanked their institutions and students.
