He appealed to the government representative in Murcia to build a 200-meter viaduct to prevent flooding at these distances
The mayor emphasized the need for ADIF to allow access to the documentation in the project’s annexes, which has not been possible so far
Fulgencio Gil Jódar, Primary: «We want to have information about drainage studies in case of floods to match the designer’s work with reality. And we reiterate the need to change the project, as has happened in other places like Totana»
Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Mayor Fulgencio Gil Jódar has expressed full support for the claims of the neighborhood representatives of Torry and Campillo in a meeting held with the Government Delegate in Murcia, Mariola Guevara. Also present were the councils of large infrastructure, Ángel Ramón Meca Ruzafa, and José Martínez. «I appealed to the government delegate’s sensitivity to join the neighborhood’s request, supported by the local council, to build a 200-meter viaduct to prevent flooding in Campillo and Torrecilla,» said the mayor.
The mayor reiterated the need for ADIF to grant access to the documentation in the project’s annexes, «something that has not been possible until now. It is essential to understand the drainage studies in case of floods, among other issues. This way, the authorities would have the chance to validate the design against reality.»
This situation indicates: «this repeats in the other sections of the Mediterranean corridor that affect our municipality. It is crucial for the project’s content to align with the land’s characteristics and the residents’ needs.» He stressed that «we have the opportunity to modify the project and include the viaduct desired by the municipal council and residents.»
It is a pivotal moment, he added, «to resolve this issue.» He also mentioned that «this will be the stance we convey to the ADIF president at the scheduled meeting on Thursday, the 24th. Decisions like the ones we are seeking in Lorca have been addressed in other sections where projects were adjusted to current realities.»
Among the issues raised by residents and supported by the local council is the «possible removal of the high passageway deemed unnecessary. This demand will be assessed for feasibility by ADIF,» explained the mayor.
While no commitment was made, the mayor expressed gratitude for allowing residents and the local council to present to the government delegate in the Murcia region. The aim is to address the concerns related to the conditions of the Rambla de Torrecilla canal. «As Cayetano and Joaquín, the representatives of Torcilla and Campillo residents, mentioned the traditional channel of Rambla de Torrecilla.»
The mayor will meet in a few days with the president of the public business entity, attached to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, ADIF, Luis Pedro Marco de Peña. The main issue to be discussed is the need to construct a viaduct to «contain» the Torrecilla Rambla and prevent flooding. «We are counting on ADIF’s sensitivity to implement the necessary project changes and adapt them to the complexities of this section, which must cross the Rambla de Torrecilla canal. A 200-meter viaduct is necessary to prevent flooding that affects residents in rural areas like Torrecilla and Campillo.»
