Ciclo literario «Ciudades literarias» con conferencias, cine y encuentro con Eugenio Fuentes

The «literary cities» cycle in tribute to the Yeclano writer José-Lis Castillo Puche, organized by the Department of Culture and the Castillo-Puche Foundation, returns for its tenth edition with Three conferences, a film screening, and a literary night that will take place in the «Pablo Corbalán» meeting room of the Municipal Culture Chamber and the Municipal Auditorium, starting on Monday, February 3, and ending on Tuesday, February 11.

The cultural councilor, Daniel Jiménez, along with Liborio Ruiz Molina, director of the Municipal Culture Chamber of Yecla and one of the coordinators of this literary cycle, presented the events scheduled for this week in our city, aiming to leave a cultural and literary imprint. Liborio Ruiz mentioned that the name of the cycle is owed to the fact that Yecla is «a literary city, as important writers such as Pío Baroja, Azorín, or Castillo-Puche were reflected in their novels.»

The «literary city» cycle begins on Monday, February 3, with The conference «Segura Molina: Mysterious and Magic» by the writer and newspaper columnist Francisco López Mengual, in the «Pablo Corbalán» meeting room of the Municipal Culture Chamber at 8:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, February 5, at 8:00 p.m. in the same auditorium, the conference «The reporter José Luis Castillo-Puche, against wind and tide, walks through Belgian Congo,» by the professor from the University of Murcia and cycle coordinator, José Belmonte Serrano, who will talk about the work as a reporter of our illustrious writer during the Congo Independence.

Bringing literature to a close with cinema, on Thursday, February 6, at 7:30 p.m., «The Spell of Shanghai» by Fernando Trueba (2002), based on the eponymous novel by Juan Marsé, will be introduced by the film critic Joaquín Val.

The final conference at the Municipal Culture Chamber will be «Hispanic American literary cities: Comala, by Juan Rulfo, and Macondo, by Gabriel García Márquez,» by Jesús Montoya Juárez, professor at the University of Murcia, on Monday, February 10, at 8:00 p.m.

This cycle of «literary cities» will conclude with a Literary Night on Tuesday, February 11, at 8:00 p.m. This night will consist of two parts: First, Issue 11 of the literary magazine Heula by Óscar Barrero Pérez, literature professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Second, a Meeting with the writer Eugenio Fuentes, presented and moderated by the professor José Belmonte Serrano.

Eugenio Fuentes is «the writer with the greatest projection in detective novels, and the detective he creates, Ricardo Cupido, appears in many of his novels,» said Liborio Ruiz. In addition to being a regular contributor to newspapers and El País, he is the author of novels such as «El interior del bosque,» «La cuestión de la policía,» and «Los pequeños fondos del corazón.» He has won several national journalism awards, such as «Julio Camba,» «Manuel Azaña,» «Carmen de Burgos,» and «Mercedes Calle.»

The «literary cities» of the X cycle are organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Yecla, the Castillo-Puche Foundation, the Municipal Culture Chamber, and the Cajamurcia Foundation, in collaboration with reading clubs and the Municipal Public Library.
