May 3, 2025. The Minister of Education and the University of the Local Council of Lorca, Rosa María Medina Mínguez, announced on Tuesday that the council has called for another year of aid for Lorca residents who use public transport to universities in the region between October 2024 and June 2025.
The Education Department has allocated 10,000 euros for these subsidies, which can cover up to 60% of the expenses depending on the number of approved applications. «It’s a support from the Municipal Council so that Lorca residents can pursue their university studies, another example of municipal support for the future workforce of our municipality,» said Rosa María Medina.
The education mayor stated that these subsidies, which can be applied for until May 16, are aimed at students living in the municipality of Lorca who commute daily or regularly from October 2024 to June 2025 to university centers in the Murcia region and hold an official university degree. It should be noted that those in private or unregulated educational centers are excluded from this call; middle or higher training cycles; Elementary, professional, or higher studies in music and dance, arts and plastic design, applied arts, artistic crafts, dramatic arts, restoration and conservation of cultural assets; Doctoral or third-cycle studies, specialization, teaching, postgraduate studies, and remote universities.
Medina Mínguez explained that «those who wish to participate in this appeal must apply through a standardized form, as per the annex included in the guidelines, accessible through the municipal site www.orca.es.
She also added that applications will be submitted preferably through the electronic headquarters of the city of Lorca, which requires a valid digital certificate or electronic identification. Applications can also be sent to the General Registry of Lorca (Plaza de España, Nº1).
The minimum documentation required to qualify for this municipal aid will be the properly completed application, in accordance with the Model (Annex I), the applicant’s photocopy, the IBAN of the bank account where they are the owner or authorized, the university registration for the 2024/2025 academic year (Annex II), as well as the authorization form for the Education Department and the University to verify data related to the municipal registry of residents (Annex III).
To receive these subsidies, beneficiaries must submit, between July 14 and 31, to the local council, in a sealed envelope, the application to present specific documentation; Annex V in case applicants need to complete the data and mark the travel days corresponding to the tickets or obligations submitted and matching the school days of the academic calendar; Tickets or passes with the transportation used from the aforementioned period where the ticket or pass date is recorded (in cases where tickets correspond to a transport discount and the amount is not shown, it must be accompanied by the corresponding pass matrix, and in the case of electronic card obligations, proof of purchase or the respective card).
Furthermore, at that time, the full payment record and, for compatibility purposes, students who applied for a scholarship type must present the rejection letter from the colleague or, if necessary, the breakdown of concepts for which the scholarship is granted.
Finally, the Education Mayor reminded that the complete basis of the call for aid to university students for transportation during the 2024-2025 academic year, as well as the accompanying documents to complete the application, are available on the website www.loca.es. «From the Municipal Council, we encourage all young Lorca residents studying at universities in the Murcia region to take advantage of these AIDS aimed at facilitating their access to higher education and contributing to personal and professional development,» she concluded.
